I don't understand why this site has cost $25,000 to make and why the episodes for Frog in a Suit aren't in HD. Hell, it's not even in widescreen. Hopefully the later episodes will be in much better quality. I'm also surprised the episodes are just embedded YouTube videos. I originally thought the site would have its own player.
looks like yall got ripped off for donating
looks like the site isn't done yet
QuoteWe will not be starting out with any funding from the outside, or from advertising or subscriptions. Since these cartoons were produced with the funding from "the people" ( Kickstarter backers) I feel it should be "out there " for the people. But to make further episodes, I need a viewer to step up and drop some money in the hat. Take a moment and pledge for new cartoons, or to keep the site going. Tell your friends about it,, put links on your facebook page,. It will up to us to make this happen.

if that was the best site he could develop with the money he initially had that is hilarious
the money went to his shitty frog in a suit "rocko-esque" (bullshit) show and $10 went to slapping together a piece of shit website for his shitty frog in a suit "rocko-esque" (bullshit) show

Thats pretty much how i see it. I mean he paid a team to make like 5 episodes so if you think about how much money he got versus how much it costs to pay a team of people then yeah theres not alot left over.
if that's the case, then he is a liar and the site will fail
o well
QuoteJoe started a pledge drive campaign on Kickstarter.com to raise some seed money for original episodes of his new series "Frog in a Suit" to "kickstart" the site. Over 346 "backers" stepped up to meet the funding goal in 45 days. With the additional help of countless volunteers, interns, and favors from friends in the industry, (and additional funding from Joe,) a total of three original episodes of Frog in a Suit were produced for the launch of KaboingTV.com.
[LINk] (http://www.kaboingtv.com/about.php)
Huh. I could have sworn the Kickstarter.com pledge drive was based more around the website, not the poorly animated cartoon. I thought about donating to the Kickstarter thing since I liked his idea but didn't because I'm a cheap bastard with financial problems. I'm glad I made the right decision.
argument about the industry going down the train goes here
THIS SHOW SUCKS I REFUSE TO BELIEVE THIS FAGGOT HAD JACK FUCK ALL SHIT TO DO WITH ROCKO'S MODERN LIFE AND THE ROCKO THEY REFER TO IS ANOTHER AWFUL SHOW THAT I NEVER SAW
I just thought of something. The site says the money was used to make three of these episodes but the first one was probably finished or near finished when the Jumpstarter thing first took place. On the site, it only shows that three episodes were made which mostly like means the 2nd and 3rd episodes probably had a budget of like $10,000+ each. Those episodes better have damn good animation and a high resolution or else this whole project is going to look like a joke. Joe should seriously consider using some form of ads on his website or else this site is going to fail miserably because there's no way in hell people are going to continue funding this show like he hopes.
W.A.C. why do you care so much about the resolution
cut it out man

Because HD is the new standard and anything in a resolution lower than that looks like shit on my gorgeous 1080p monitor. That, and if it cost so much to make these episodes, you would think it would at least be in HD.
has it ever occurred to you that not everyone has a gorgeous 1080p monitor? show some humility WAC, I mean jeez.
the lesson you should all learn here is don't give fucking money to faggots online it's a fucking scam
never again

Since 1080p videos aren't in perfect quality on YouTube, it would look extra excellent on smaller monitors. <

these kinds of cartoons are not something that would look better in HD, in fact they'd probably look worse
if they wanted quality they might as well have uploaded the swf files
Quote from: rtilthese kinds of cartoons are not something that would look better in HD, in fact they'd probably look worse
I disagree. It looks pretty bad in full screen mode and would definitely benefit from an HD treatment.
my point is that there's nothing more to see in HD. things like pixar movies and digital 3d films benefit from HD. shoddily drawn flash cartoons don't have much more to show. yeah, everything will be more crisp, but what the hell is the point? the only benefit will be getting rid of video artifacts.
There's a lot of things wrong with the animated series but with the high budget in mind, I just don't understand why he doesn't put the effort into putting it in HD. It just seems lazy.

Well this is rather disappointing, but I did have a feeling he was just getting the money to fund his frog in a suit shorts not kaboing TV....hence the reason I didn't donate. Oh well, on one hand I commend his ability to actually raise the money from his fans alone to make his shorts (not many artists can get that kind of support!), but on the other hand frog in a suit was very boring and I kind of bet that if he had done a kickstarter for just frog in a suit it wouldn't have passed. More fans/donors were probably interested in his independent animation TV site idea which was featured more prominently in the kickstarter... and so seeing the site looking like a wordpress is going to generate some backlash and suspicion to his requests for more cash going into the "website" which is more likely going into the frog show.
would have been funnier if he made a geocities site and just embedded the youtube player.

wac completely missing the point
Anyway yeah this was a big disappointment imo, everyone has pretty much brought up my opinion in some way as to why. Here's hoping that it improves very much very quickly
there are a lot of things i could say here but they generally fall into the category of the same ironic snarky posts i hate and frequently make fun of so i'm just going to say BANAAAANG

i could be honest but then i would just be dragging myself down to your level internet user x you know who you are
anyway i didn't look at the site + never donated but it's still disappointing to hear it sucks
I think I might send him an email after he releases the second episode of FiaS. His site has so much potential but yet the current results are laughable. :/
QuoteMy kickstarter backers knew that my main goal with the funds were to get some original episodes on the site to get some numbers ( viewers) in order to get some funding to develop other creators projects. So yes, the money went to the cartoons. ( Incidently, by the time Kickstarter took their cut, Amazon took their cut, $1000. worth of no shows, and thank you gift costs, we ended up with $8000. per episode, which the final episodes cost much more than that.) I'm tapped out financially to try and put more into the site itself, but I've always looked at it as work in progress. Due to some glitches, we are trying to get the indie and student showcase up.
Any business start up knows, the most important item is product. The episodes were the product. I did my best to get it to market to generate numbers. It's a simple site to do that. I could have taken funding from the outside that would have promised the money people to own everyone's series that aired there. I turned it down to have a go at it this way. I chose You Tube to start to generate more exposure at the start.
I could have taken Frog In A Suit to try and sell to any number of markets. I didn't need a site like this to do it. I put my show up to garner attention so that other series producers had an alternative if they wanted to find an audience for their show.
If we don't get anyone to watch these episodes, it's all moot anyway, because the site and the goals for it will have to go away.
so somehow $20k+ turned into $8k, and no money went into the website.
"we ended up with $8000. per episode"
It's more like 20k turned into 16k. Where did that message come from? His latest message from his blog is fairly similar, but has some different information. [LINK] (http://joemurraystudio.com/blog/?p=2709)

if it was 8k per episode that's $24k because he produced 3 episodes.
I think the first episode was made before the Jumpstarter pledge drive was created.
i hope so because it's terrible
Weren't you able to watch the first episode shortly after donating money? The copyright on the cartoon was 2009 so that would be strange if it wasn't finished until '10.
i remember watching something. must have been pretty forgetful cuz i don't remember it
I'm pretty sure Joe Murray once said anyone who donates would get to see the first episode of FiaS and I remember you saying that you didn't like it. i'm gay
I remember seeing something ages ago, I think he originally had the animatic online.

Also the fact Kaboing turned out to be a bland mess doesn't surprise me even slightly. In fact I think I predicted this on these very forums back when we were first discussing it back when he started the original "gimme funds plz" drive.

I think the previous episode was better, but I enjoyed watching this. Joe recently made a blog entry about KaboingTV that's worth reading. [LINk] (http://joemurraystudio.com/blog/?p=2729)
