Title: good for gesturing
Post by: MarcK on February 5, 2011 11:47 AM
i was looking for poses to gesture with and found this blog
http://www.posemaniacs.com/ (http://www.posemaniacs.com/)

its fantastic because every entry is a 3d model you can just fucking rotate and draw again.

i absolutely hate this website and i feel like i've explained why at least a dozen times, but i'll explain again

- i hate the camera angles the poser chooses. they're absolutely useless and usually make horrible silhouettes
- same boring, chiseled, generic male 3d model for every pose
- uses a texture of the muscles which i understand why but is impractical for real life drawing
- horrible lighting and image quality

imo, if you want to practice some life drawing and don't have access to models, go to deviantart and look up nude life drawing poses and models. you'll get a lot of soft porn bullshit, but at the very least you'll get a variety of body shapes, poses and interesting lighting with an artistic purpose, instead of a random, computer chosen angle.

I dont think its that bad.

The lighting and texture I really don't care about. For me it's just having a human with a post in front of me to draw. The genericness of his figure helps normal anatomy study, and the angles make having a limited few hundred poses uploaded redrawable

well I wouldnt know if these life drawings are accurate or anything. it's just going off someone else's visual process. I've been taught to do the exact opposite, which is why I prefer this alternative

Those [physical] models that you can pose yourself help a little bit, but they aren't always what you need
