if you're looking to spend all the $2K just on the box, look no further:
$140 - cooler master storm sniper case - this is the case i have and i fucking love it. it's a mid-range but it's got a lot of space, comes with 3 huge fans and room for a 4th on the bottom. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16811119194 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119194)
$110 - corsair 750W power supply - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817139006 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139006)
$1,000 - core i7 gulftown 6 cores @ 3.33: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=19-115-223 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=19-115-223)
$200 - gigabyte LGA1366 mobo - 2 2.0 pci-e 16x, 10 sata, 6 memory slot max 24gb http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813128423 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128423)
$290 (after rebate) - sapphire radeon 5870 1gb - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814102872 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102872)
$100 - 8gb ddr3 1333 gskill ram - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820231311 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231311)
$55 - ZALMAN cpu cooler - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16835118046 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118046)
$30 - ZALMAN vga cooler - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16835118117 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118117)
^ may look like junk but i have used these coolers to replace the stock for years and they lower temps 20-30C. not kidding. use with this:
$10 - arctic silver 5 thermal compound - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16835100007 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835100007)
$65 left to spare.. could throw in a dvd burner, maybe an extra HD. enjoy
edit: also ignore that guide. if you're building a high-end machine you need to replace the stock cooling. it's also kind of outdated

i dont know what "CAPCOM Gift - Lost Planet 2" is but i think I get it for free
intel always gives away shitty games for free with their processors
for example i got james cameron's avatar THE GAME
never downloaded it but yeah
Well it looks like a good computer build, I'll probably buy all of it within the next couple paychecks
i guarantee you won't need another box for at least a decade with that rig, spare a few upgrades every once in a while (maybe more ram, another vga card down the line)
just double check the mobo is for mid-range towers
pretty sure it would be but never hurts to double check
also if you buy that case install the cpu+cooler before you put it in
i didn't and while i was able to pull it off it's just an unecessary strain
mostly because i was trying to use the wrong socket mount for half an hour
Jesus Christ that processor...
worth every penny imo
Would it be cheaper to buy it all at once? or would it be about the same?
depends on when the rebates end
if you buy it all at once they will pack it in as few boxes as possible
imo it's more convenient to do that
Post the updated build with the things that I told you to change so rtil can see and provide input
The problem with ordering them online is
I work everyday so I won't be home to sign for it
if you can never sign for it i think they'd eventually leave it at a post office for you to pick up
lol I never had to sign they just leave the big box of equipment at my front door in the rain

yeah that seems like what i would pay for lost planet 2
i personally avoid nvidia cards, i think they're overpriced and their radeon counterparts perform just as well and usually for less money
at that range of performance though you'd be hard pressed to find anything they can't do
up to you though
I looked at the benchmarks and nvidia just seemed like the way to go in this case, with the ~$300 ati 6970 performing 20% slower than the 580 and the ati 5970 performing 20% faster but costing $750
it still doesn't really justify the cost gap, especially if it performs >30 fps on whatever you're playing regardless
bottom line though is all the new high end model cards are overpriced but are probably going to last you a long time if you take care of them
please dont fight
we're not fighting i'm explaining why i don't buy nvidia cards i really don't care which one you buy, they're both great
personally i prefer nvidia just because i like their drivers better than ati but that's just me
they are equally horrible although they're getting better. ati used to be a pain in the ass to upgrade, but things have gotten a lot better

Yup, especially with the 360 being the target platform for every game.
I wish there was a feature to vote on posts, and if the rating got low enough it'd automatically be hidden.
what would happen if i did that:
1. post would be buried with "click to view" button
2. everyone clicks "click to view"
3. proceed to post "oh god why did i view it"
could be funny lol
i like the idea
we have ignore lists for this very reason
