Entertainment / Re: Minecraft on Sega Saturn.

the draw distance is terrible but it is really impressive considering the saturn was largely ignored for a long time by the hacking community. i'd love to see some other games more appropriate for the time period put on it that never made it to the system. maybe a de-make of sonic adventure since that was originally the console it was intended for.

that guy with the weeb winamp playlist would've been my friend. or literally just me

was this in high school or college? in high school we had a computer lab but i only remember 2 classes in there, one for web design and another for programming. i actually learned a decent amount of Java and VB and made some seriously awful games, one of which i still have - a tic-tac-toe game with 3 difficulty levels. it's a very suspicious looking EXE file

now my computer lab in middle school was an absolute joke. all the machines were one of the first macs, and they were hooked up to the internet but it took the entire goddamn class to load a single page in netscape. i remember that and also playing mario teaches typing, smashing the keyboard keys with gibberish because i was bored, and then the teacher wouldn't let me re-do it so i failed that test.

in that instance it wasn't so much that the teacher was useless, but those computers most certainly were. really, computers were my vice before college. i would use them to waste as much time as humanly possible. hell, i almost failed 3rd grade because i never paid attention and played sim city 2000 on the computer in the portable instead. i really don't know why or how my teacher let me do it - she could clearly see me on the computer, not paying attention. maybe she just didn't give a shit. yeah that's probably it. well at least she was nice enough not to fail me. she probably should have

there's gotta be something out there considering how popular DOOM still is.

last year i re-played DOOM 1 and 2 and everything else that is in the collection on Steam. i was really impressed by some of the modpack games, especially Legacy of Rust and No Rest for the Living.

roblox is a publicly traded company so i would not be surprised to see more predatory features like that prediction market going live. their #1 goal will always be to make money and nothing else. they will always do the bare minimum to protect people as far as legal liability goes.

and i am gonna push back on this and mirror what @ZekeySpaceyLizard said.

i think people should be careful how hard they go after games like roblox for not doing enough to "protect kids" because ultimately the onus should fall on the parents. if your kids are on roblox unmonitored enough to the point where they are getting groomed/kidnapped, you're clearly not paying attention. spend more time with them, educate them on netiquette, limit their screentime.

it reminds me of how parent groups in the 90's got really loud and angry about cartoons on TV and petitioned legislators and networks to "do more" to "protect kids". and what we got in return was decades of long-term damage to creative freedoms, all because timmy's lazy mom let the TV raise her kid. now replace TV with the internet and literally what's the difference? do you really want to live in a world where everything needs to be handled with kids' gloves because of irresponsible parents? it's just pandering to the lowest common denominator.

punish the predator, not everyone else. look after the people you care about and spread awareness, rather than screaming at some faceless entity to do it for you.

it seems like the running theme of flash "teachers" is that most of them were basically frauds. i should have been one!  B)

my absolute worst teacher in university was 100% my 2nd year flash course 1st semester. idk where they found this guy, but he barely knew anything about flash and was not an artist by any means. he had programmed some extremely basic game, of which i'm certain he just ripped the code from stackexchange or something. he was unable to teach us basically anything, and one day he even had me do a "guest lecture" of sorts where i probably taught the class more about how flash works in an hour than he could have all semester.

needless to say he didn't last and was fired after 1 semester, and an animation teacher took over the course.

apparently one day he was sighted outside the 7/11 adjacent to the parking lot of our uni, quietly sobbing while eating a donut. he knew he failed, but it wasn't his fault, really. he was a nice guy, he just wasn't cut out to be teaching, well, anything.

i live near boise idaho lol. cali cold is not that cold to me, relatively speaking anyway.

it does snow a lot up in the mountains near here, but not down here in the valley. we just don't get a lot of precipitation in general

I wonder who she was talking about when she said they tried to hire someone who made a video about smileycentral. If it was me, I don't remember. Obviously back then I did not post that video on youtube, and if someone did, it wasn't me. even now, almost all my flash cartoons that are on youtube are not uploaded by me.

oh! that is my super not-so-secret alt channel, which - of course - has a shitpost video i made on a whim that ended up becoming a meme. that is of course the loaf video. it's a great conversation starter, at least.

I made a little announcement about it but only in a post. Glad you like it. it spits out some errors here and there, but nothing you guys should notice.

when that happened i was very confused because i wasn't familiar with the term "object show" - i watched the video people were coming from and obviously the generation that came up with this term is pretty young because you can go back and find "object shows" from decades past if the definition is simply "inanimate objects that talk". however it was very interesting and at the very least i'm glad that my animation might have inspired someone to start animating even if it was subconscious.

ah so you found me through my youtube channel
the few people that follow me there often assume i am dead or something because i rarely ever update it
i really should put up all my animations on there as shorts, that's really all i have, though
