i liked the sketch of the pin-up better. because it's more complete, and the crossed lines and contours on the breasts aren't quite there on the other one

Yeah me too. The second one was part of a series of experiments I did with line after reading a small tutorial on pure vs impure line. I did a lot of these types of drawings  in the space of an hour which really helped me see the flow in the figures, and i'll probably be bringing this over into my life drawing

Okay here's what i've been up to since those shitty sketches

Starting in October 2012 i started doing a light bit of fanart, namely homestuck this time around


In December I made a cool little doodle for a friend for christmas since I was broke. It's his OC, some tall wolf girl named Kira


In January I started making an awesome jazz trio sketch which I actually finished! How about that. Here are some progression pics



at this point a couple friends on facebook let me know that the values are problems here (easy mistake to make since i never work with color), so i touched it up a bit


Couple months ago I got back into fanart. Here's some homestuck and some Gravity Falls. I didn't finish these either, i've got a bad habit of making a nice sketch and then moving onto the next thing



About a month ago I tried painting again. I'm still shit at it, but it's a lot of fun!

oh but wait, that pose is way too stiff and boring. Let's fix that


Most of my stuff is in my sketchbook or sketchpads or pieces of paper scattered around my desk that i'm too lazy to scan or upload anywhere so a lot of my stuff doesn't see the light of day, but I was very happy of this Daft Punk/Justice sketch I did a month ago! Maybe someday i'll clean it up...


I recently noticed the way your mouth curls around the upper lip area when smiling at a mirror, so I tried to emulate that and now i've got a new way of drawing expressions that look less flat and boring!

One of the ways I practice posing is to just bring my sketchbook everywhere I go and draw people I see walking by or just standing/sitting around doing nothing. I don't try to go for accuracy of the person so much as I try to get an accurate portrayal of how that person was posed at the instant I started drawing them. Stick figures works if necessary, but I like to include their weight and body type, because a fat person is going to stand differently than a fit person. If you can pick it up, Walt Stanchfield's Drawn to Life does a great deal of explanation when it comes to strong poses and how to develop them.

[spoiler]Mabel is based on Alex Hirsch's sister, and Grunkel Stan is based off of his grandpa.[/spoiler]

[spoiler]One of the voice actors drew the little illumanity top hat guy in my book with the caption "look out for meeeee!"[/spoiler]

[spoiler]There will hopefully be a soundtrack album released sometime in the future, as the music seems popular enough[/spoiler]
