not exactly sure what the limitations are with friends, but it has achievements and shit linked to your account and in addition to the five first missions you get access to the Xel'Naga Caverns, Shattered Temple, High Orbit and Discord IV maps for customs vs AI

Actually, I'm pretty sure you can join custom games on the maps available and play against other players, not just the AI, which I guess is pretty cool. No ladder access, though.

now i remember why i stopped laddering, that is stupid as fuck. Even with mass hydra +1 attack upgrade he killed me, it's just insane.

yeah hydras are not great against void rays unless you have them in bulk.

In all honesty the best counter to mass void rays is to not let your opponent get that many void rays to begin with.

This definitely works, but if they have enough void rays (especially if they are charged), you are almost guaranteed to lose the infestor that goes in for the fungal. Late game you can probably afford that for what it's worth, but earlier on its a little risky to take that route (you'd need a bunch of them anyways if you wanted to kill anything)

Healthy mix of Hydras, Infestors, Mutalisks and Corruptors should do the trick. Honestly, with Psi being in like Silver or whatever, he just needs to make more shit.

if you really want help with something you encountered on ladder, post the replay. then we can tell you what you did wrong. you should never lose to mass void ray. voids have been nerfed twice since retail release.

More like 4 or 5 times, their speed was removed, their charge was nerfed, their damage is only good against massive, etc... VRs weren't fun to deal with on launch because they could either outrun their counters or just kill them with absurd amounts of damage.

the charge was both nerfed and buffed. and the bonus to massive i think helps them fit the role they are good at

Not a problem if you can stall the voids with marines/turrets/etc. They match pace with voids so even a brief stop will allow the missiles to hit, and if you carefully micro they will take losses no matter what. Ravens aren't a viable strategy in most games, but they are really fun to use.
