I'm trying to get into a tournament over on DA, (Yes, I know), and have decided to make a genuine effort in creating my audition piece. The irony of this? Its my first real full length flash in forever, (locklegion stuff does not count), I only have the first scene out of the 3 planned done so i'ma just leave it here to see what you guys think of it so far.

warning: fail voice acting ahead

emanhattan

It's confusing. What's it supposed to be about?

yeah that's a bad on my part, the first scene originally was supposed to be longer, the speech you hear at the start was scripted to be the king of the nation speaking on national television while riots where happening in the capital. But because of complications including voice actors dropping out and other IRL bullshit it had to be scripted out and this first scene is now just a 'day in the life' snapshot of the main character, (trenchcoat guy), being watch by the dude at the end in the dark room, the rest of the flash is actually about how the main character gets kidnapped by the dude in the dark room literally half-way through the exposition that I'll be putting in the second scene that will explain what happened a bit more.

Exactly what I thought. He's got some kind of government overthrow, people with magic powers, confusing action, and horrible sound design. He's Yung Jazz alright.

Before you try and do something as long and as complex as this seems to call for, you need to practice stuff like storyboarding and scene composition so what you do will make sense to the average viewer.

Galloglasses

I had it storyboarded actually, but things got messed up and confusing till the story stopped making sense when voice actors dropped out. The governement overthrow thing at the beginning is not the focus of the animation, at all, its actually a plot device used to explain why the main character loses some things later on in the flash and is part of the characters wider story, (if it helps the main storyline was penned to be a comic series, but the animation itself is about the main character being taken out of his life in the midst of an important moment and thrown into the tournament I mentioned in the OP. If I can get one of my friend to voice act literally just 2 lines I can stick her in at the beginning as a news anchor that explains what is happening before the rest of the scene plays out but as I said, IRL bullshit prevents that until I can find a replacement voice actress.

Hnilmik

Oo; So the story not making sense is because the voice actors dropped? I understand how there're times where voiceover is needed, but if you have to explain confusion, something needs work. While you could have a news anchor explain things at the beginning, how about having people in the crowd actually say substantial, relevant things the audience can pick up on instead of random mumbling?

Galloglasses

Actually I am, but I need to get more voice actors or just use one guy i know who literally has 10 accents. It was planned out that the news anchor would explain the political events taking place within the city, (so essentially without her the rest of the background events doesnt make sense)
