The recording companies accused Thomas-Rasset of offering 1,700 songs on Kazaa as of February 2005, before the company became a legal music subscription service following a settlement with entertainment companies. For simplicity's sake the music industry tried to prove only 24 infringements.

Disregarding this virtuous gesture, yet, charging 80,000$ for one song is more than just fuckin ridiculous for it would mean that the relative songs must have been downloaded by at least 80,000 people, assuming that the loss of the recording industries would be about one dollar per song (considering the regular online prices for music). This of course can't be assumed since most popular songs which are downloaded at such an amount are spread by hundreds of people and picking put one single person to pay this fine, even if it was that high (what a really doubt) is an insolence and it's unbelievable that the judiciary of a modern country as the USA actually charges any person only to set a sign for the masses because they are too "busy" to find the other 79,999 people is just unbelievably ridiculous.

The company doesn't even lose a dollar when you download a song. They lose the fraction of the dollar that goes to them from the purchase.
