here are my thoughts on this posted in the academyawards thread:

it's startling, horrific, and no character is one-dimensional or flat, even Precious's detestable mother is given a chance to show her side of the story. It breaks the mold in that these are not the typical charming characters in films, these are real people that might live next door to you or go to school with you. their not amiable, suave, or even awkwardly likable at first glance. stunning performances from Sidibe and Mo'nique.


i loved it for it's focus on characters and setting, it really is a great film imo, but if you're a type of person who watches film for the escapism, then this probably isn't a film for you. at all.

I want to see this movie but idk if I could handle that much intensity. Movies with rape scenes or intense abuse scenes make me really uncomfortable and upset. I could see me feeling a little emotionally drained after watching someone abuse their 15 year old daughter for 2 hours. Also I heard about a really gross part in it that i'm not sure i'm ready for haha.

but all in all i will probably see it.
