any browser is going to be a memory hog if you're on memory-eating websites with multiple tabs. i'm not worried about memory, i have 4 gigs of it. if i wanted lightweight browsing, i'd use opera

also opera turbo is supposed to do everything you're describing. it's for low bandwidth users who can't download media at high speeds, so the graphics are relayed to opera's servers, crunched, and sent back to the client.

QuoteFF needs to lost 30 pounds so it isn't a memory hog and then make its engine 100% standards compliant (like Safari/Chrome and Opera). Then IE can rot.
gecko is standards complaint, and you should never have to use IE in the place of firefox, especially now that silverlight works on other browsers. yes, there are a few css3 features that don't work properly in gecko yet, but webkit isn't perfect either and css3 - like html4 - is a work in progress and should not be relied upon or even used for practical purposes.

it's just stupid how much people trash talk firefox after it is finally making a dent in IE's monolithic market share and switching to a clone of safari made by the most two-faced corporation on the planet

ok so I ran a little experiment with ff while disabling its addons. both ran multiple tabs with static sites as well as one youtube video, and aim express open. ff came out slightly smaller.
