It's a humor unique only to its genre, so naturally it is hard to replicate.
But yeah old school cartoons are very fun to watch and have certain charm to them compared to the Loony Toons and such.

While we are looking back, I noticed cartoons today suck, whether it is lack of creativity or just not enough money to animate in an old way many cartoons today lack what we found humorous back then.  We had shit like Hey Arnold, Rugrats, Spongebob, Dexter, and many humorous shows.  Today I can't tell the difference between a couple of the cartoons because they all assume almost the same style and plot.  I think Flapjack and maybe Chowder are good the rest is a bunch of garb.  (not that I watch cartoons all day while jacking off in my basement ;0)

Spongebob's writing sucks now though its recycled scripts where they madlib shit just like Family Guy.
