^ i agree, one of the reasons i think pot is still illegal is im not sure they have a way of immediately telling that you're high if a cop pulls you over

i mean sure you could have red eyes or something but if you dont smell like it then they dont have much to go on other than their assumption and thats not a good way to regulate laws

if they have developed or can develop a breathalyzer that works for marijuana and they can put a reasonable age for it (probably 18 because thats when you can get cigarettes) then i think it would not only be reasonable to legalize pot, it would actually be a great thing

i mean i think that any mind altering drugs like alcohol and pot should be treated the same in public places as well, but i mean only really if you're doing something wrong. a bunch of stoned people minding their own business doesnt bother me as a much as a drunk guy pissing on a wall or yelling at everyone he sees or whatever

This is exactly what I was thinking, they should just treat smoking weed in the same manner they treat alcohol, if you have a certain amount in your system, then you should be in trouble. I bet the day they figure out how to make a weed breathalyzer, they'll start seriously considering legalizing it.

Quote from: 99while my views on drugs are already known, i agree that it is a bit silly to ban a plant that gives you a case of the giggles and makes you want to consume ungodly amounts of snack food.  the main thing i would worry about is it would effect everyday society.  would public "highness"  be treated as public drunkenness is or would stoners be allowed to waste everyone's time and act generally asinine in establishments such as theaters, grocery stores, public parks etc?  i think it would be retarded to have to wait in line for stupid amounts of time behind an increased number in stoners at Subway...then again, stoners already DO frequent Subway.

my other main concern would be how our DUI laws would handle a possible increase in high drivers.  since pot does slow down reaction time, its a bit unnerving for me to think of being on the road with an increased number of individuals driving under the influence.  how would such infractions be treated, with more or less tolerance than those driving under the influence of alcohol?

all in all, i don't really condemn the legalization of pot so much as i worry about its effects on everyday life.  its my opinion that a legalization of pot must be treated like alcohol; it must have legal restrictions in place so that public life remains in equilibrium.  but hell i don't give a shit what you do at home.
if pot was legalized and sold commercially, i imagine you'd only be able to afford so much of it. then again you have people going beyond the legal limit of blood alcohol levels every day and then getting in their cars.

however, the effects marijuana has are far less dehabilitating than alcohol, no matter how much of it you smoke - a key factor. that is to say, you can't overdose on marijuana. it's physically impossible.

that's not to say people who have been smoking large amounts of marijuana are safe drivers, but i'd feel safer with someone who had just smoked a joint as opposed to someone who took a few shots of vodka.

i think we already see the effects of marijuana in society. it's incredibly prevalent and most people i know already smoke it in wide arrays of habitual levels. most of them i wouldn't brand as "stoners", but those i would i don't find harmful to society, but instead harmlessly non-contributing. but would the government really care if they were flipping patties the rest of their life, and using most of their spending money on taxed marijuana? i doubt it.

Yes but you can have a little bit of alcohol and not be affected. You take one puffity puff of MJ and you get super duper high bro!

Not that I support it or reprimand it either way. Although I do know a lot of depresing dregs that smoke way too damn much and its very sad. Kind of like alcoholics and them bein drunks is sad. YOU GET THE POINT

i've actually driven with people who were high, and they were surprisingly alert and focused, but i think it varies with what kind of weed you smoke and if you put extra shit in there. weed doesn't really impair judgement or reaction time the same way alcohol does. i know people who say that weed helps them focus better on homework and get less distracted by other things. its bizarre

While this may be true its also true that drugs do effect everyone in different ways.  But i think as a rule of thumb, it should be illegal to toke and drive or toke while driving.   Wait what am i saying, it already is.

i would certainly like it if they legalized it. i am only concerned about this state's economy, and for good reason because i don't think i'm getting into college.

my honest opinion. our society won't go through a drastic change. maybe more people will move here, i dunno, but i don't see it. i don't see an increase in DUI's either; the law states we aren't allowed to do any substances while driving, ever, so how would legalization of this one drug put an increase on them?

i won't pretend to be super educated about the subject, but why you guys are discussing how "a puff doesn't do shite", i'll never know..

but that's what makes marijuana less dangerous - you get "high", and you stay that way. alcohol has a gradual effect, and it gets worse, so it has that tendency to be more destructive.

i can't say i know from experience - i do drink but i've never gotten really drunk and i don't smoke anything, but i've read a lot of material on this, and i actually used to be very anti-drug when i was younger. but when it comes down to personal liberties, i have no business judging other people's use of substances any more than the govenrment does.

I have been a driver as well as a passenger in this example and I remember I when I was driving I was more focused  but also a lot more paranoic and irritable at the moment

I think some of the hierbas they have in my town are really really bad and I learned my lesson that night!
srlty kids stay out of drugs!

it\\\'s funny to see that people complain about some kind of bad after effects if it was allowed, when it the Netherlands (or was it just Holland?) it has been allowed for ages.

in Germany, it\\\'s legal to a certain extend. if you only use it for yourself, its legal. you can\\\'t buy it legally or anything, but the only illegal part is the selling, and since the police assumes that you plan on selling it if you have more than you need, you can get arrested only for that.

obviously, if you smoked weed or have been drinking and then drive, you automatically try to focus on it as good as possible, so nobody will get suspicious or something.
