Can't get the pressure function to work...

I've been owning my tablet for a couple of years now. It's an Aiptek Swift 600U and I never had any problems with it, except for one thing.
At the beginning everything, including the tablets pressure function worked just fine but one day the options for the pressure just disappeared in flash and I really have no idea why... I have gotten a new pc, since, but the pressure function hasn't returned and I have never bothered because I haven't used that function in flash anyway and the smoothing options for the brush are a great alternative to the pen pressure, for instance, in order to make the ends of a stroke thinner than the middle part of it.

Recently, I have started to work with photoshop a little more. Unfortunately I haven't found any option yet that emulates an option as the brush smoothing option in flash and I was never really content with the look of the strokes.

In order to fix that problem, I have tried to restore these once working pressure function by looking for new drivers, googling for similar cases and testing the tablet on other pcs but none of these attempts has led to a solution.
On some boards, people could solve the problem by just installing a wacom driver but the 2 ones I have tried didn't work for me.

Did anyone have similar problems or knows how to solve this one?

first of all, you're never going to get a stroke smoothing effect in a raster environment. if you're looking for a less pixelated look, increase the dpi. photoshops' default is 72 and while that is the standard screen dpi it's best for artists to work in the 150-300 range.

i have never heard of your tablet model before, but you should look into generic tablet drivers or even wacom tablet drivers. i would recommend starting from scratch and deleting whatever drivers you have currently.

First of all, thanks for the response.
I have tried to install a couple of wacom drivers for different models but yet it hasn't helped at all since I got an error message that the relaitve tablet couldn't be found whenever I tried to open the configuration tool and the driver of my tablet itself doesn't seem to be updated as well... to be honest, I don't even know where my tablet drivers are located since my pc shows my tablet as an unspecialized USB-HID (Human Interface Device).
Is there something like a universal driver that works for any tablet?

Also, as I said the tablet actually works but concerning the pressure function there seems to be nothing between 0 and 100%... it either draws a nomal line as if I would use a mouse or nothing at all. May it also be that the pen is just broken or is that unlikely if everything else is working?

it's possible. what could also be happening is microsoft's built-in tablet functionalities are conflicting with your tablet driver. what OS are you running? it's best to just disable it completely but the difficulty of doing so varies depending on your OS.

You're fucked. Upgrade to Windows 7 and disable the generic drivers that Windows downloads. Then install some other generic tablet drivers. If I could remember where I got mine, I'd link you, but... you SOL there.

Thanks for your advice guys, I got it to work.

In my case the root of the problem was that my tablet model didn't have any drivers for Vista and therefore couldn't emulate any pressure. I tried to install several Wacom drivers of similar tablets but it seems like those check the exact code/ID of the plugged tablets and therefore didn't work at all. After countless and somber google sessions I stombled across a board where someone solved his problem by installing a driver from a similar model by Trust which apparently is exactly the same driver and configuration program that came with my aiptek tablet for xp. It looks like many of the various cheaper enterprises purchase the software for their hardware products from the same software developer...

Before I found the solution, I had (as you recommended) turned off the generic Vista tablet driver, however, it did not conflict with the driver in my case as I later found out. Quite the opposite, the pen only worked in programs as Flash and Photoshop but not anywhere else as on the desktop or ms paint. As it seems the Vista driver just makes sure that the pen also works in situations where the relative drivers wouldn't support it. Anyway, in my case the problem was the lack of a working driver for my OS.
