flash line smoothing

for some reason my pencil tool in flash has 0 smoothing and the box is darkened so I can't change it from 0. i've always been able to change it but it just started being stuck at 0 since yesterday. anyone know what to do?

pen smoothing only works when you have the pen type set to smooth
