I think it started with all the "AWESOME" stuff. And I don't even want to be an asshole here. Before MGA the highest scoring flash was Adam Phillips stuff with 4.12. Then MGA came and had a score of what, 4.60 or something? From that moment on a score of 4.12 was worth nothing anymore and people started to care more about the authors than their flashes.

i always remembered the portal's "highest" scores being around 4.23 forever. then the redesign came and suddenly everything shot way up. now it's not so rare to see a flash come out of judgement with a 4.7

yeah but back then we still had legendaryfrog, illwillpress, thewalrusz, and a whole lot more sprite flashes in the top 50. they had zero talent and got rewarded with millions of views by appealing to the least common denominator

the scores are inflated now and artists still appeal to the least common demonimator (there are a lot more of them now) but at least most of the top 50 has a decent level of talent even if they waste it on stupid shit
