So anyways. Ive been depressed for a while and my art sucked! I'm doing better now. And so is my art!

My previous post
my best art so far... was an old sketch that I dug out for TBA.

HERE IS WHERE MY NEW STUFF WILL GO.

5-13-10---

This was just a doodle in my notebook for a story I'm writing. Used Gimp to color it. This took me less then an hour to make. My opinion, it turned out great!

I'm going to start this off by letting you know that your work so far is comparable to that of a 7th grader. Don't take this poorly.

Your lighting and anatomy are way off. Your lines are shaky (are you using a mouse?), her face is disturbingly distorted, and her tits look like they've been glued on.

That being said, you seem to have an interest in drawing female figures and that's an area I've been working on as well. You appear to have a foundation in anime (perhaps that's what sparked an interest in drawing) but I also can tell you're trying to get away from that, so that's a good thing.
I wouldn't bother spewing all this out if I didn't think a couple months practicing your anatomy would improve your skill by leaps and bounds, if youre committed enough. I'm willing to bet you could be one of the more talented artists here with just a bit of work.

The most important thing you can do for yourself is get a drawing tablet. Wacom makes the best in my opinion, and you can get a useable one for under $100. It will be the best investment you make for working with digital art.

I reccomend going here and practicing her pose tutorials. You can do these with pencil and paper. Practice drawing different poses from different angles. Don't feel bad about referencing any of the poses right now; it's just an exercise to get you used to how the muscles/body works in different angles.

Try working from life as well, whenever you can.

Hope this helps

sevv: btw dude you dropped your wacky-colored paste-on nose here i'll give it back to you

I agree with zhi in everything except for one thing

personally I do not encourage people to practice human figure drawing based on other people´s drawings because

a)along with the knowledge of the artist that made them, you might also accidentally asimilate and memorize some of the mistakes of the drawing you practiced with. And usually erasing those mistakes/bad drawing habits from your mind takes a lot of time!

and b)its simply not the same as practicing with the real thing.

I know its probably frustrating to practice and it can be tough to try anatomy when youre probably eager to do more cartoony and personal work. But even with a few times worth of practice you will realize how it drastically influences your skills. Try to practice using some pictures from the internet or magazines, probably of people in bathing suits/bikini/etc.

Like i said, this was a test, with a doodle. I knew it couldn't be good. I think I'm not ready for digital art yet. Basically I jumped the gun. i should have waited a little bit.

QuoteYou appear to have a foundation in anime (perhaps that's what sparked an interest in drawing) but I also can tell you're trying to get away from that, so that's a good thing.

Personally I hate anime. It helped me with nothing. I tough myself.

But thanks for the information. I will use it to my advantage to excel.

new stuff to come soon.....

You don't have to draw on paper before you draw digitally, despite what others might say. I rarely ever draw with pencil and paper these days. I prefer the feel of a tablet pen over a pencil or pen any day, so don't make excuses that you 'jumped the gun'. Digital is a medium, just like watercolor paints or clay for modeling are media. Not one is better than another, you just have to find the one that works for you.

No this is legit. I worked on it all day sunday. The compleat downside is the RAM sticks max at 192MB, and the hard drive only 7 GB. This was a windows 98 that was UPGREADED to an XP. So i still need parts etc. All the info was removed and I checked!!!

Well the only 'wrongs' in this PC is the specs. I can find the parts easily. if not, im looking at the OS. you cant find XP anymore. XP kicks ass and I dont want Vista or 7...

If you start complaining though, lostman, I will have to retract my defence.

Or you could buy a copy of XP Home Premium from Goodwill for $1.

Casey Pixmintro

Well a computer with 192 MB of RAM and 7 GB of memory would probably run $20 nowadays so... yeah.

I don't plan on mainlining my art with a computer. The real feel of paper beats technology any day.
