Japan 'ruined' a lot of things. but i really blame the american industry for giving into merchandising the hell out of this stuff and destroying a lot of what was great about our animated entertainment culture. i mean, there's a way to blend international styles, but they went about it completely the wrong way. now we have stuff like Totally Spies and Ben 10.

The price is a bit staggering for me, but in the technology market prices tend to drop quickly and/or devices tend to improve a lot within a short window of time. Within a year I bet they'll have a cheaper version, maybe even a bare-essentials iPhone Nano in a matter of years. Personally I can't even afford it, nor do I need it, so I'm more than willing to wait for a cheaper version.

I'm also a bit put off with being tied in to a 2-year iPhone-specific contract with Cingular. I'm already on a Cingular plan but still they said I would have to buy into a new contract, one made specifically for the iPhone. If I'm going to buy one, then I'm waiting a couple years until they get a bit more lenient with the variety of their service plans.

Hey, I haven't been on in a while, time to get up to speed on this topic.

First of all, any time some new, major technology or something comes out, you're bound to find people saying it suck for whatever reason just to feel important because they're bashing something that's supposed to be incredible. But anyway, a mobile device that can access the internet, play music, and make phone calls isn't a brand new thing anyway. I can see us becoming how Japan is now, because of all of this technology that is integrating things into one device.

in the early 80s, portable CD players were very expensive. the technology wasn't very good either. now you can get a good one for about 20 bucks. remember when DVDs first came out?

yeah but
this kind of technology is not cutting-edge in the least
they're only charging this much because they can. they're apple, and only hip and cool people buy their ergonomic sexy products. therefore they can charge more money for something that's not even that great

there are handheld devices that far exceed the iPhone's capabalities. the iphone relies on outdated technology and has limited capabilities. it's a piece of crap, as if i haven't already mentioned that.
