The question is, how do you draw on paper? Do you use just your wrist, or do you make sweeping motions with your whole arm? If it's the former, a small, cheap tablet will do you nicely. Otherwise, you'll want a bigger tablet. I got to try a 9x12 Intuos, and it fit like a glove, much unlike the crappy Bamboo Fun I use now. Being able to draw using my whole arm was just that much more comfortable, and it translated nicely into my sketches.

Now the only problem is the cost. Do what I'm doing and search online for sites selling tablets. Some can give you good deals. Costco Online is selling tablets for about $80 USD cheaper than Wacom's official site.

I'll get a cintiq soon I think, the 12ux one.

I'm planning on selling my intuos too.

^ be warned, while the 12WX is pretty nice, it doesn't measure up to 21UX at all and has a couple design flaws:
  • no turntable stand - instead comes with a built-on kick stand that slowly goes down as you draw. i find this stand only useful for when you're using it as a monitor. good luck trying to find a comfortable position to use this . the only way i can is by laying it flat on my drafting desk with the cables hanging around like christmas lights all over my room
  • has inserts for a separate stand, but is only compliant with wall-based units. you know, like display TV's. so if you'd like to draw while standing in front of a wall, this is a useful feature
  • enormous, bulky AC adapter/breakout box with fat, annoying cables. not portable in any way
  • MAJOR design flaw - within 1" of the edges the drawing surface the accuracy radically jolts to one side, then begins to taper as you reach the edge. you can avoid this by simply not drawing by the edges all the time, but this is unacceptable
  • the actual quality of the display is average at best
really , for the price, it is not worth it. if i had sold my intuos i would have greatly regret it, i probably use it more often than my cintiq. yes, it does have its advantages (rotation, for what it's worth being how hard it is to actually rotate a tablet with a fat chord awkwardly placed on its top), but if you're not going full-size then you will probably regret not leaving your options open.
