haha, that noise that sounds like a cat at the beginning of that song made me think of The Sunshine Kitty Experience.  That would be the perfect song to parallel sonnet 18.

okay, time for a serious answer.

Yellow by Coldplay, not the best answer but all i can think of right now.

"Sonnet 18 is part of a large group of sonnets that Shakespeare wrote addressing a man of great beauty. Shakespeare, in sonnet 18, uses descriptions of nature, and the power and images that they imply, and directly compares them to the power the young man possesses in his youth, vigor, and promise. Shakespeare then finds that the beauty and power of nature do not compare to the beauty and power of the young man. He uses his poem as a way to provide the youth with an eternal existence and subsequently makes it evident that Shakespeare sees the young man as more than a human, he sees him as a god.

In the first quatrain Shakespeare begins his comparison between the young man and nature by comparing the young man to a summer's day. The image suggests illumination, brilliance, light, life, and all things associated with the sun as the source of all these things."

In Yellow by Coldplay, they never actually make a comparison of the subject to the stars but they do use descriptions of nature to conjure images of beauty.  The same images Shakespeare brought to mind, illumination, brilliance, light, life.  Also, because the sun is a star they are also roughly drawing a comparison from the same source.  

"He provides means for immortality and eternity though the verse he writes because the youth will still exist on paper, even after the youth is no longer part of the physical world."

In sonnet 18 Shakespere sees the subject as being godlike as he goes on to describe why the subject is actually more beatiful than the summer.  He also provides a means for immortality thourgh the writing of his sonnet.

In Yellow, the subject is obviously seen as godlike because all the stars shine for him and all the things he does.  He also provides a means for immortality through the writing of the song, which is actually mentioned in the sixth line.


Well that's about all I got and it's kind of bullshit, but hey you have to turn in something to get a grade right?
