saw bruno tonight. it doesn't have the charm that borat did - but that's because borat's antics were innocent. bruno is a different kind of character, but he's still hilarious and offensive in every way. it's not even an hour and a half but it feels a lot longer than that. not only was it funny but it points out the ridiculousness of a lot of american stereotypes and ignorance. i thought it was brilliant. although i am (pleasantly) surprised it has an R rating - i'm not sure how they convinced the censors. apparantly they had to cut one scene to keep it, and after you see the movie you're going to wonder what could be more crude than what they had already showed in the movie

I agree. I can't really compare Borat to Brüno though. In Brüno, everything looked a lot more planned in my opinion, in Borat, most of the stuff just "happened".

For the trailers for Bruno I had no idea what it was going to be about at least with Borat I had a vague idea on what the plot was going to be but for Bruno it looked like a bunch of sketches put together.

Hopefully when I see it tonight ill be able to see if its as good or not

borat is similar to bruno structure-wise. it's mostly a series of scripted and non-scripted sketches put together to play on with the story. in this movie, bruno is trying to become a superstar in LA [spoiler]after being blacklisted in europe for crashing a fashion show[/spoiler], and after a while he thinks the only way to do that is [spoiler]to become straight[/spoiler].

my buddy who saw a sneak peek of bruno said it was worse than borat because it crossed the line from outrageously funny to outrageously wrong... its a fine line

he still liked it though and hes crazy conservative

I worked at Blockbuster and my friend came in with this girl and asked me what were good movies. And I recommended Babel. Later on I find out that he wanted date movies and he was very mad at me!

there is no such thing as a good date movie

bruno wasn't bad, but it wasn't nearly as funny as borat

it did have a lot of great scenes though, and the ending was brilliant

best part was the thing where all the parents are trying to audition their babies for his photo shoot

nothing kills romance quite like watching small children get lost in a desert

or cate blanchette with a bullet in her shoulder pissing in a bucket while making out with brad pitt

or a lil arab kid jacking off to his sister

or a chicken getting decapitated in front of a bunch of kids

or a pointless 15 minute mexican dance sequence

or a deaf and mute 14 yr old japanese chick flashing her cunt and trying to make her dentist finger her (keep in mind the date was with an asian girl)

or the overwhelmingly bleak downer of an ending

honest to god babel was the single worst movie ive ever seen get oscar attention since moulin rouge, and that isnt just the bias talking

I just saw Moon, it was fucken amazing. It did away with nearly everything I usually hate about scifi and replaced it with this wonderful atmospheric subtlety. Nothing is ever spelled out for you, and the filmmakers clearly assume you'll understand the events without their help. the acting (actor) was great AND YOU SHOULD ALL GO WATCH IT RIGHT NOW

there's a big cockblock advertisement for it on movietickets.com and when i check where the closest showing is it says i have to leave the state to see it

you know what i always wanted to do? drive from va through dc to maryland and then drive back
