I've been working on a digital painting for a little while, adding to it when I get time between work and school. Wanted to see if I can get any insight from you guys, its a w.i.p picture of me as a superhero.

Shida

Some of the shading needs a little work to make shadows a bit more uniform, for example, the shading on the underwear doesn't match the shading on the rest of the body, and the shadows on the cape aren't too convincing. You might want to watch his most forwards leg, currently, it looks like it starts from the middle of his genitals.

Other than those, some of the shading is wonderful in areas, like on the face and neck, and the inside of the cape. The contrast in colour between the cape and skin is a nice touch.

i agree with the lighting shida was talking about. his feet are really flat and don't have any dimension. i'd look at some reference. really i think you should not work with color until you have the sketch of the body actually finished and perhaps even work up a grayscale so you can figure out the values before you get lost in colors.

Dagolith

that, and his feet are huge!!!

also, not only are the tones wrong on the underwear but they just feel like they're floating. the matching tones and a feeling of it wrapping around the body through brush strokes will help.

well yeah I agree with a lot of what they're saying

also though I think the form is good, and it looks convincing to me.

his feet are a little weird and with the shadows of the feet so far from him it looks like he's floating in the air

other than that I think it's a pretty good job it coul just use ssome touchiung up also it might be nice to FINISH it

I haven't touched the underwear at all, (except for what went over it in another layer) mainly working on cape and tones. I had sketched it out, scanned it in and then began colouring over the original scan, so I did have all the proportions correct, and most of the exagerations are on purpose.

I see what you guys are saying about shading and shadows, and nice pick out Shida on the foot being part of the crotch. During the middle of colouring I changed the light directions so I'm slowly working up to correct all the spots and such. Thanks for the insight.

there's nothing wrong with exaggerating. but if people point out your exaggerations as errors, it's probably a good sign you're not doing it right. people that have got down stylization of the human body are those who are never questioned why some part of the body may be too long or too short, because it just works. a lot of people come up with the excuse "it's just my style", when really the style hasn't been perfected yet, so it looks more like a mistake than a style. not accusing you of doing that, just pointing out that your exaggerations are probably not agreeing with everyone's minds yet.

Oh I know, I was just giving an exclamation to piece. I'm defining their shape more as I embellish it.
