and then you can come back and knock the socks off the boys at NG! with professional work!

shit id do that for an easy $250
Oh, wretched ephemeral race ... why do you compel me to tell you what it would be most expedient for you not to hear? What is best of all is utterly beyond your reach: not to be born, not to be, to be nothing. But the second best for you is—to die soon.

No no no, I meant the programs OTHER than animation and art.

An animation school is probably the best place to learn animation, but he said that he wanted to get into computer games, and I'm not familiar with how art schools run technical programs so I can't say I can recommend it from personal experience.

MRat goes to Sheridan? I drool at some of the reels from there.

But yeah, definitely NOT Full Sail. Or ITT Tech:

Gentlemen, behold! The future of 3D!

The senior show for UMass this year had some okay pieces, but nothing spectacular, but they were all 3D stuff. The big thing keeping me at this school right now is the money and because Pat Smith and Kyle Kooper graduated from the same program I'm in.

Plus the ladies. Ohhhh the ladies. Actually they're all taken :[

Also, my animation teacher trained under Jules Engels :3

sQueef

jesus that 3d vid sucks
i think art colleges should be a little nicer and just tell you to fuck off quickly if they can tell you are going to suck and make gay shit like that ^

well every school has their bad eggs but if the teachers suck than ALL the work will suck typically

i see what you mean

digipen however is actually more focused on the gaming industry (it is partially funded and was established by nintendo), and their programming department is much larger than the art department. our school is responsible for the game 'portal' (the team that made portal made a game called 'narbacular drop' , valve hired them and they made portal. they're basically the same game.) although that is beginning to change, the animation department is growing and we have a lot of amazing teachers with extensive backgrounds in the industry (disney, pixar, dreamworks, amblin, etc)

lmao. our school is like 10% women. the ones that aren't taken are often mistaken for males

Quote from: rtilpixar doesn't have a hell of a lot of openings and they'll only hire seasoned animators or if you're very, very good . even if you were doing something like testing a rig for breaks or adding shape blend constraints .. they're only going to get the best. so it'd have to be something you're really passionate about. and a lot of people are passionate about the technical side of animation.

having visited the studio, there are definitely a lot of menial and tedious jobs at pixar. but yeah you're right theyve gotten so high profile that they can literally cherry pick the top 0.1% of animation students in the nation, even for their lower tier jobs. disney is similar... ive seen some phenomenally talented people get rejected from a disney internship simply because their drawing style doesnt look similar enough to disney's standardized shit. apparently they only want calarts grads who are tailor made for disney animation.

im sure it varies from studio to studio though. judging from what my animation teacher has said, you don't need to be an incredibly skilled artist to work on the simpsons or plenty of other shows. that same teacher was initially rejected from disney for not being a good enough artist. after he worked on the simpsons for 6 years, they came to him and made him animation director on the recess movie.

Quote from: rtilit's not true that all studios only hire people who have 2 years experience, but it's definitely easier if you have a more impressive resume. and internships do help a lot. not only do you get studio experience and prepares you for the future but it's like icing on the cake with your degree

and even your resume means nothing compared to your portfolio. they just want to see what you can do. so even our stupid newgrounds shit could end up coming in handy sometime in the future. shit, ive gotten jobs just by showing people those shitty dailytoons intros i made
I have more of a life writing this review at 1145 pm than you guys do making these movies. . .

sQueef

yeah but those dailytoon intros are nice f0d

I couldn't have made them if that makes you feel any better! (~8

well rigging and shape blending are tedious jobs. but you get my drift

well sometimes your resume can speak for itself , but that takes time. portfolios and reels are definitely the be all/end all though. that's why grades don't matter for artists

It's sad that once upon a time Tim Burton worked as a concept artist for Disney, if you've seen his drawings you understand. Now if you aren't a clone, there's no job for you.

Wade is not gay, read his profile! It's sad that you would use sexual orientation as a joke, shows that you have no real sense of humor.

rtil

hahahahaaaaaaa. well cdm, there are plenty of women outside of the campus, a lot of people take that option

Quote from: rtili would think a small university with its single focus being an animation major would be less watered down than a large university but ok
large universities usually have better resources like 90% of the time, while smaller universities usually love you more and give you hugs or something.
smaller class sizes = more focused teaching with the professor

you want to find a medium university that "offers the resources of a large school, while still providing the productive atmosphere of a small school" and write that in your personal statement.

i would advise against going to a school that only does art only because you might decide you like something else. if i were you i would go to a school that has a very good art program (research it) and do a double major like some kind of faggot

that way if you can't get an art job you can still get a real job and put food on tha table

rtil

are art jobs not real jobs now? :(

yes smaller school can suffer resource-wise, but digipen does not. we have a render farm, over 400 machines on both campuses and all the up-to-date software. not to mention close to a hundred lightboards and 6 scanning machines.

but a lot of people do drop out, especially early in. you find out very quickly whether or not animation is your life's pursuit at this school

Sheridan too. We lose like 50% of our students.

an art jobs is a real jobs if it has a steady steady flow of income.

i think digipen would be a good choice for cooldrmoney as long as he is sure he wants to do art. a lot of people reccomend against going to schools that focus on just one thing (like computer science for me) because if you change your mind you're left with the feeling of being fucked. cs discourages a lot of people because of the high level math and i can only imagine that art classes can get really discouraging if things aren't going quite as smooth as you'd like it to be and you're struggling
