reason i asked was to size up the price with the amount of animation you're doing. for a student i'd say that's pretty decent , but still it will depend on how many hours you spend on it

take the most prominent feature of each character and bring it to its extreme. i'd also try thinking about the characters as basic shapes and working from those shapes. especially for the fat guy, i really feel like his silhouette is the weakest, and his head shape really isn't working for me.

the woman on the couch is probably the strongest character. her body matches her head, and she feels animatable and is pretty solid overall. the goth girl has an interesting head shape but her body is stiff and her head just kind of sits on top. i would do some personal research into character design for television animation and look at how some famous directors and animators solved these kinds of problems.

i should probably read some animation books cuz i never really have! i guess richard williams would be a good start.

anyways yeah like i said these characters don't reappear, they're basically a "crowd of kids" in the script and i drew them how they looked on the storyboard.

if basic shapes are what the employers want, thats what i'll give them. but i dont wanna have to start working with the line tool and doing generic flash tweening, even though i might end up having to do just that since i think its what the other animators on the project are doing

well that's not really what i meant, but i think it is always a good idea to be able to break down your characters in simple shapes. doesn't necessarily mean they have to be made out of circles and boxes. like in foster's, essentially all those characters are are primitive shapes but they become quite complex in their design, yet still flexible for animation. the best way to tell if your character reads strong is to black them out and see if their overall shape is appealing to the eye. a strong silhouette is a good sign of strong design.

yeah i know you didnt mean that i should tween simple shapes, i think its what i have to do anyways though. they showed me a preview of what the other animator had done and it looked inconsistent with what i had done, using more of the line tool

I like how Joe Murray does his character creation personally! In your case itd be okay what in the script makes this person interesting. And then animate in response to that. For example if the goth girl is someone whos depressed, make her animations all kind of sluggish.

Course you may or may not want to take my advice as I haven't really been all that educated in animation other than by myself!
