so was roughing out this idea i had when i ran into some trouble. i want to animate a short about a teenager who finally has some facial hair but his dad makes him take it off blahblahbalh. so i just started and already i don't know what to do about the beard. so i used the stipple pencil deal but it looks like crap cause the lines move. suggestions?

Ever seen Half-Beard?

Oh, wretched ephemeral race ... why do you compel me to tell you what it would be most expedient for you not to hear? What is best of all is utterly beyond your reach: not to be born, not to be, to be nothing. But the second best for you is—to die soon.

It looks boring right now. It's smooth and nice n exaggerated, but it's lacking any flair or anything to draw in interest.

Try making a character who's whole body moves when he talks and stuff. Give him some body language and whatnot.
I was gone, FOR SO LONG

Hmm. Maybe don't make them dots? You could just do that blanket looking type of beard, where it's just a solid light gray type of color you know what I'm talking about? Otherwise you could end up in clean-up hell trying to match up tons of dots perfectly throughout the movie

yea i thought about that but i want it to look like stubble cause its supposed to be like a young kid (even though he looks old now...) and the "blanket" look makes him look really old. is the jittering really off-putting or do you think it looks well enough?

sQueef

I figured you didn't want to do the blanket look because it is a young kid and that's cool, I actually didn't really notice that the dot's jitter around. The way you have done it so far looks fine to me, are you really going through and re-drawing all those damn dots? That seems like a huge pain in the ass.

Maybe you could lighten the load of dot-drawing by turning it into just a few dots and lines or something, but if you want it to look exactly like that then have fun I guess! It doesn't look bad to me though is what I'm trying to say

its actually cheating with the line tool and the stipple line but its annoying when you bend the line the dots shift.

this should have been in flash/art shouldn't it? DAMNIT
