I'm a fan of Nina Hynes' music, I'll admit, but goddamn this video is awesome.

It's all done in 3Ds Max, believe it or not. It's amazing though. I'd swear it was 2D,

Thor

Those particle effects are all definately 3D. If it's ALL 3D, those are some pretty freakin' amazing shaders on that

MRat

It is indeed ALL 3D.

Zee

Whoa. When I was watching that, I completely forgot to keep in mind it was 3D.

I enjoyed that. 8D

Halcion

i need to see it in mesh to believe its ALL in 3d

well that was nice for SHIT character movement >:(

but in all honesty yes it was interesting.
Oh, wretched ephemeral race ... why do you compel me to tell you what it would be most expedient for you not to hear? What is best of all is utterly beyond your reach: not to be born, not to be, to be nothing. But the second best for you is—to die soon.

rtil

i'm pretty sure the 'amazing shaders' are simply animated textures

Gerkinman

It would have been cool if it was more then just a tech demo. Was all rather pointless...

Amazing as in "Wow this looks hand drawn" and then I forget that I'm watching something that was done in 3D.

Up until now, I have not seen any shader on a 3D model that made me forget that I was watching 3D. The toon shader shipped with the software these days is not convincing at all of a hand drawn 2D style.

As far as the animation goes, I think it's actually really good.I don't see it so much as "Wow it's a bunch of lines and shapes," but I look at it as "How is the animator adding life to these simple figures?" Each one of those weird creatures has a personality, just look at the way they move. Animation isn't always the golden-aged cell animation style, and I haven't come upon many examples of non Hollywood/anime cartoons where there IS life in the movement. The only other guy that I can think of off the top of my head that's done this is Don Hertzfeldt, but I'm sure there's others out there

MRat

It's not a tech demo, that's the official music video for that song.

They should pay Rtil to make it o.O

MRat

Rtil's stuff is not suiting to this song, I would think.

Perhaps he has tricks up his sleeve I have yet to see, however.
