The Eel is an animation i saw  a while back, im a fan of chris cunninghams work, even though my media class thought he was disturbed and had major issues... but they also said that about aphex twin, and i own his entire volume of work  ive linked the youtube version because although this was for bbc the quality of the video they were hosting was terrible and ive only seen the high quality one on tv. The aniamtions of a moray eel too big for its tank its overcome with stress and fucked up shit starts to happen.
Enjoy

Thank you so much for showing me this
Oh, wretched ephemeral race ... why do you compel me to tell you what it would be most expedient for you not to hear? What is best of all is utterly beyond your reach: not to be born, not to be, to be nothing. But the second best for you is—to die soon.

I can link more, including some aphex twin videos that are a must-see.

bjorks video is one of my favorties; All is Full of Love

I think he's a genius. Chris said "When I first heard the track I wrote down the words 'sexual,' 'milk,' 'white porcelain,' 'surgery.' [The video]'s a combination of several fetishes: industrial robotics, female anatomy, and flourescent light in that order."
Genius? YES!

aye lesbian porcelain robots

thats probably his most famous work, simply due to it being from a popular musician, i'd wager

the man does special effects like noone else

I still recall a year or more back, I thought he'd retired, then my brother sent me rubber johnny and I was like 'oh dear jesus yes' even though I was freaked out by it (at first I had no idea what it was).

edit:

on another note
cunningham had a 'website' of sorts long ago that had alot of his really old college and fresh-from-college work on it

Ive had the fortunate luck of going to greenglass in london, theyre showing off something "ground breaking" in 3d animation. Rubberjohnny, was great i remember all these threads on the internet of people thinking it was real (though it did look persuasive). I would sort disagree that its his most famous, as Come to Daddy, Donkey rhubarb and Window Licker were really popular in the uk (come to daddy even was banned at one point). Due to the whole Cunningham face (on children), that was related to Richard d James.

crap i forgot to post links... hold on.

ah but I live in America.
And those werent very popular here. Come to Daddy became mildly infamous.
But the Bjork and Madonna music videos were all over the place. PArticularly the Bjork one for obvious reasons.

Though i-robot was very similar, whether they got inspiration from Cunningham i dont know, but it is a bit coincidental

Having no clue what is going on here I would just like to say that I love Aphex Twin and this man Cunningham is amazing as well. I saw Windowlicker sometime ago but all it accomplished at the time was to leave me dumbfounded.

A feeling I seem to get quite often :(

If I watch something and am left dumbfounded, it's usually a good thing. I don't think you should ever be able to immediately grasp what it is you're watching. You should be confused or at least somewhat in the dark, until you've given thought to it.

That's my stance anyway.

Also, if ANYONE could direct a Lovecraft film, it'd be Cunningham. I don't think I've seen anyone capture the sort of paradox of slowly creeping and at the same time pounding insanity that is in H.P.'s work.

Also Guillermo Del Toro is working on a At the Mountains of Madness film that I have hope for.
I was gone, FOR SO LONG

Same here.
However the eel was very confusing at times for me, despite giving it soem thought... but it might have something to do with the quality on youtube. I couldn't exactly tell what was going on all of the time.

this is thebackalleys

Haha, well I don't even necessarily WANT to understand it anyway.

Like the movie Stay. I've seen it seven or eight times, and there are still so many things about it I just don't get. And I wouldn't want it any other way.

i concur, richard d james is some sort of genius, i have no idea with all my music experience how he does some of his stuff. (also he has some of the rarest synths in the world :()
