i dont know if you guys have noticed but it really does seem like tom has at least temporarily abandoned his support of true quality work and has just entirely sold out to the videogame based crowd. hes a really nice guy but oh my lord has he been fucking up lately. the site's entire fanbase has undergone a seismic shift and a whole new fuckin demographic is taking over. the audience is getting nerdier by the minute, and more selective in which flashes they make wildly succesful and which flash they utterly ignore

have you guys been watching the front page lately? over the past month, i have literally NEVER seen it worse. at one point a 4chan flash about scientology and a 4chan flash about shoop da whoop were up at the same time. then the scientology one then got replaced by fucking lolcats... ughhh. and right next to the 4chan garbage, tom is showcasing flash like sprite TV, wii are sold out, and legend of zelda shit. its sickening. and of course nothing is worse than the god awful hype surrounding metal gear awesome. i honestly have never seen a more overhyped piece of shit. for fucks sake, tom put MGA2 and a flash ABOUT MGA2 on the very top of the front page, right next to each other. to top things off, illwillpress is back on the front page. and i believe there was some hentai there too, just for good measure.

if anusboy and bambee werent on the fp, i would have completely and utterly lost ALL faith in this website

i have noticed a huge influx of 4chan material being widely promoted on the site. i am really glad anusboy and bambee are on the front though

i asked tom why he was supporting 4chan flash awhile back. he said he doesnt care one way or the other about 4chan itself and the only reason he front pages that stuff is because NG's audience clearly overlaps with 4chan's. hes right about that aspect, but still you sure wish he wouldnt give that shit attention

i could understand that before, you wanted a place that can review your flashes and give you some attention or criticism (rarely anything useful though). now i dont understand why anyone goes there. its not like anyone gets any attention for anything anymore. people make flashes that get like 0-2 reviews and are overlooked by 4chan cartoons and parodies etc.

you're all complaining about this shit but by going there you're just surrounding yourselves with nerds and 4channers

and dont say youre trying to spam it either because spamming ng has become useless after submissions not involvinf popular artists started getting like 3 views

I still spam it because I'm new to making flash and it's still fun for me to have a good laugh about my shitty movies on this site.

And I don't really care about getting "constructive feedback" from total idiots. But... I am really glad that Bambee is on the frontpage, even though it's score isn't right.

I guess I just go to NG out of sheer boredom. But that's just me.

If I had the capacity to actually produce movies that would make frontpage and stay there for a long time, I would do that instead because I think it would be swell to have millions of views on your movie.

I used to watch new flashes on NG a lot but now, it's all gone to hell. They seriously need to improve their system to help make it like it once saw. They've also become way too strict on reviews. You can't even write a negative review without spending forever on it. Because of this, all the new flashes on NG have ridiculous review scores. It's sickening really. The top 50 used to mean something. Now almost all the classics have been bumped off with horrible flash movies. There used to be a balance on NG when it came to scoring. After the weekly top 5 took place, people automatically started 0ing stuff and it created balance. Either these people left NG or the newer crowd is just overwhelmingly large. Also, why the fuck did they never fix the under judgment problem? I just took a look at yesterday's statistics and wow. Times have changes.

Entries Blammed Yesterday | 68
Entries Submitted Yesterday | 145

This has gotten out of hand. Any flash under judgment that has a score of 1.50 or less should be automatically blammed. People are just too generous now when it comes to scoring.

newground's traffic doubled from '07 to '08, so yes more stuff gets overlooked etc but still

i don't understand why you keep asking this same question over and over

people go there because it's literally the ONLY place for an animator to hope to make a name for himself

it's NOT easy and it's NOT fair the way the system works

i think once newgrounds gets a more steady income tom will begin to rely less on putting internet pop culture stuff all over the front page to attract viewers

i disagree because some of my favorite cartoons have scores under 1.5

i do think that too many entries make it OUT of judgement though

at least NG has a blamming system, unlike youtube where any bullshit can be uploaded

i reeeally wanted to leave NG a few months ago after the treatment dt400 got. but tom kinda changed my mind. after i made this big long rant about how overrated hacks were driving out underrated talent like notorious and such, tom made a pretty good argument. none of us would have ever met each other, or even been labelled as underrated, if it werent for NG. the fact that we got little to no attention for our work made us improve as animators. and tom has always been pretty supportive of everyone on the site and willing to give them all exposure, even if he gives more attention to the stupid videogame and nerd shit because that makes a profit. basically he convinced me that if we stuck with NG it would eventually pay off. and clearly it does pay off for zekey and rtil, cuz whenever they submit something of really good quality they actually get recognized for it

so yeah im probly never gonna make a crew flash ever again because thats a hopeless cause, but i would love to start an experimental flash series just to see where it goes. if there were a legit artistic outlet for the more underexposed crowd, it might get them attention and exposure that they wouldnt normally get. and even if the dumbfuck 4chan gamer crowd dislikes it, there's always the off chance you'll find people with good taste or even an incredible artist amongst the shit. after all, we all met through ng right?

i organized Dailytoon 400 which was on the fp for like 6 hours or so but tom took it off fairly quickly, probly because we were bitching too much about it. but i mean shit, we spent months writing an organizing that thing and yet it passed judgment with a 3.3, the same score as EVERY OTHER FUCKING DAILYTOON :*(

the score is much higher now but it was still demoralizing

checking back on it, it only got daily 5th, and 3.90 score. People seem to think SS is just spam for some reason.
