Now I know the last remaining 4 people who use this place are uncs who have probably never even touched the game, but I feel as if the subject is to big to not address.
But anyways, you've probably heard of roblox atleast some time ago or very recently due to the controversy. And I'm not even gonna sugarcoat it--- Roblox has a SERIOUS predator problem.
Why you may ask? because the platform is dominated by mostly children. In fact, it's gotten so bad to the point these preds have moved off platform and moved to places like discord to interact with these Minors.
Really disgusting stuff, but that's not all.
As of recent, a kidnapping occurred because of the platform. A 12 and 15 y/o pair of sibling were kidnapped by an incel degenerate who I don't bother even learning the name of.
You might have heard of this specific story through Penguinz0 like I did, but the fact of the matter is this wasn't just one time. This has happened multiple times as of not so long ago.
You can go read upon it yourself if you want, though I don't recommend it.
And you know something else?
Probably the only cause to actually stop this problem was nuked off the platform. You know schlep?(Ofc you don't) He's basically this roblox youtuber who---after being groomed in the past---Decided he'd take on the role of a sort of Chris Hansen type of character. By which he would pose as helpless prey in order to catch these preds. even working with law enforcement to get them locked up.
All for the sake that no one should go through what he did. Truly some heroic stuff. But here's when things get kinda icky for roblox; They fucking banned him and sent a cease and desist order. But why?
he was apparently "Creating an unsafe environment for the platform by taking the role of a vigilante."
...
What the fuck?
So, yea, roblox refuses to address the obvious problem on their platform.
Someone actually steps in to take action.
roblox completely stops said someone and allows the problem to fourish.
And again they are doing Absolutley fucking NOTHING to take action(Ok that would be a lie since they are somewhat doing something, but the problem is they only put in a rats ass amount of effort).

Now, I'm sure you're pretty damn tired of me ranting on this, but there's even more bullshit!

But what is this bullshit? well, would you believe it. David baszucki/The co-founder and ceo of the platform a.k.a THE BUILDERMAN Has teased he wants to add dating and Gambling.
Once again, what the fuck?
he say's he finds interest in the idea of adding a "Prediction Market" calling it brilliant even. In other words, he thinks it'd be cool to add gambling.
As for the whole dating thing, he say's he wants to add dating features for people above the age of 21. This isn't new, btw. this has been circulating since 2023.
... Either he is extremely retarded or just-actually no that's about it.
Now, the feature is stated to be for those 21 and up, but Who the fuck other than the people who grew up on roblox in the first place is even playing it to begin with. Some of said people are already married with a family. Yea. Pretty crazy shit.
Have you even been to some of the 18+ games already on the platform? Dry as a dessert.
Not to mention little Timmy can just grab mommy or daddy's ID and get access to all these 18+ features.
Anyway, what do you think of the subject at hand? Let me know. Thanks for listening to my meaningless rant,

unfortunately this kind of thing has happened before, many times, in many other online communities, games and networks over the years

and it will continue to happen as long as parents dont keep their kids off the internet or away from media that has the potential to harm them, dox them, or worse

the main thing that makes the roblox mess novel in some way is that its happening in an age when pretty much everyone uses the web and has access to knowing this info

but overall this is nothing new
the golden rule of the internet since it became accessible in the 90s was:

dont put your personal information online, especially around people you dont know

when people dont follow that one simple rule, they get hurt
it is the one rule
when its broken is when you get events like the Nintendo Swapnote Controversy, the guy opening fire at a tekken tournament, streamers getting SWAT'd, and the literal hundreds of times a pervert has hunted down someone they met on a social media platform

you cant rely on companies to keep you safe
you cant rely on companies to keep your kids safe
no modern company has good intentions
no modern company wants to be accountable

if your kid is posting personal info on roblox, you didnt teach them the rule
if your kid is sharing personal info on discord, you didnt teach them the rule
if your kid is sharing selfies on keek or tiktok or wherever, you didnt teach them the rule
you have allowed them to expose themselves to a world full of freaks
and you, the parent, are ultimately at fault

That's true, but the fact this is happening on roblox, a place aimed towards kids is mind boggling.

I feel like zekey covered most of this.
AOL Chatrooms were pretty heinous and predatory but by the time the internet was genuinely commerical there were enough stories where this sort of thing was normalized and a common thing -- There was also very little stopping people from signing on for stupider things.

E.g. Marilyn Manson MTV Web chat

I have never played roblox I thought it would be cool to put music on there but then was immediately told it would not get used.

I'm getting so old man.

One day very soon they'll stop making megaman games or something

roblox is a publicly traded company so i would not be surprised to see more predatory features like that prediction market going live. their #1 goal will always be to make money and nothing else. they will always do the bare minimum to protect people as far as legal liability goes.

and i am gonna push back on this and mirror what @ZekeySpaceyLizard said.

i think people should be careful how hard they go after games like roblox for not doing enough to "protect kids" because ultimately the onus should fall on the parents. if your kids are on roblox unmonitored enough to the point where they are getting groomed/kidnapped, you're clearly not paying attention. spend more time with them, educate them on netiquette, limit their screentime.

it reminds me of how parent groups in the 90's got really loud and angry about cartoons on TV and petitioned legislators and networks to "do more" to "protect kids". and what we got in return was decades of long-term damage to creative freedoms, all because timmy's lazy mom let the TV raise her kid. now replace TV with the internet and literally what's the difference? do you really want to live in a world where everything needs to be handled with kids' gloves because of irresponsible parents? it's just pandering to the lowest common denominator.

punish the predator, not everyone else. look after the people you care about and spread awareness, rather than screaming at some faceless entity to do it for you.
