The only sequence I liked from this episode was the theatre Addams family atomic gold sphere scene.

And the reveal as to why the dark roads and headlights were significant in the teaser.

Lynch Occultic shit to the max. Not that I'm complaining.

[spoiler]Penderecki's threnody (the atomic bomb) begat, or ripped a hole for, the dark mother entering our world. We recently saw her trapped in the cube eating the couch couple and I am guessing that was the creature depicted here.

The dark mother puked up Bob in spirit. Bob manifested here in the form of a cicada frog. The woodsmen, also unleashed by a rift, or born from the aftermath, of the a-bomb, conditioned hosts for the Bob-frog via their radio message. Bob-frog climbed into, or rode, his first host (the way one might, say, ride a horse as mentioned in the woodsman's words), the girl on the bed.

The giant is the opposite of the dark mother and birthed goodness, in the form of Laura, to thwart Bob/the dark mother spirit thing that the bomb unleashed.

I don't think it's happenstance that technology is the means of Bob's first host's conditioning.

The woodsmen are asking for fire, the first human technology -- "Got a light?" They manipulate, and travel via, our electronics. That fits with all the themes of electricity, static, distortion, the light pole, etc. We doomed ourselves.

That's my guess. It's a bit literal.

Edit: Shout out to Gordon's office having photos of garmonbozia (corn) and the a-bomb hung up -- I think he knows a lot more than has been let on in regards to his Blue Rose cases.[/spoiler]

Another thing: I've always kind of wondered what Twin Peaks' fascination with teenagers is, but I think the thing at the end with the poem...all the adults dropped (dead?) but the teen girl just kind of yawned and fell asleep. And then a disgusting cockroach frog fell asleep in her mouth.

Teenagers are like this weird bridge between children and adults. I think Twin Peaks focuses a lot on the transition that happens when a child/teenager realizes humans/adults don't have good intentions. For Laura it must have happened quite young, when BOB started abusing her, but she still had a naive faith in her family and when she realized it was Leland it destroyed her. But you see shades of Laura in Donna, Audrey, and Shelly, who also have similar realizations about the intentions of people during the original series.

One of the things I love about Twin Peaks is the 40s-50s influence, and I'm not sure if it's because of Lynch's childhood or if it was something like the atomic bomb. I feel like for Lynch, the atomic bomb might be to the world/human history what Laura realizing BOB and Leland were one and the same was to Laura.

Edit: The 40s and 50s also have this image of purity but it was brought about by the atom bomb and based on exclusion, oppression, and just outright fucked up stuff.

Teenagers are also a "manufactured" age category in the sense that people born before the consumer boom of the 1950s didn't really think of adolescence in the same way we do. The spread of adolescence as a transitional phase between childhood and adulthood was at least in part driven by the economic situation of the time; there was suddenly a large group of young people with disposable income when there wasn't before. Accordingly, there was suddenly an explosion of everything teenage; there were knick-knacks marketed towards teenagers, movies custom-built for that audience, and so on (and not to mention music).

I think Lynch is interested in teenagers because they're a living manifestation of his pet topic of the seediness behind superficial exteriors. Once you cut past the exterior, you find a lot of pain, and a lot of dreaming.

I like this observation the best.

if there's one thing lynch is good at it is subverting expectations. we got the most classic twin peaks episode last week followed by something that under any other circumstance would never be allowed to be produced much less allowed on television.

channeling a lot of eraserhead this episode, i do think we just witnessed the creation of BOB and Laura as an atomic bomb ripped open some kind of portal between our world and the black lodge. two shots of convenience stores and the woodsmen stumbling around spreading guts, crushing heads and repeating poems. trouble is we've been delivered a visual narrative while still having a lot of unanswered questions. the best we can do right now is speculate.

maybe the atomic bomb is a symbol of when humanity took its first "fire walk". someone should ask Gordon - he seems to be in tune to what's going on more than anyone else right now since Coop is still learning how to take a piss. but did BOB just leave the body of the real Coop? i could've sworn one of the woodsmen picked him up and took him away.

starts strong and ends strong. skip any episode that centers around james hurley.. there's even more you could skip but the important thing is that the lynch/frost eps are still great.
