got the ps4 special edition at the late-night launch. i'm about 15 hours in so far and i've got to say it's the best game in the series from gameplay/graphical/presentation standpoints

if you want an excellent visual-novel/dungeon-crawler hybrid, go for it and play persona 4 golden if you can it is so good

the localization is fine, ive had no real issues with it

id call whatever these pics are "cherrypicking" but i dont know what this person is trying to prove other than the script might have a few changes

for a game that has 80000000000 written lines of dialogue that weren't even in english originally, i think i can give some leeway here. doesn't help that all of these examples have zero context given

It's just really awful diction and kind of to the English language it's very insulting. Atlus USA is a scum and has a pretty bad track record of driving down the opposing lane with customers still in it, but this tier is like that of Revelations. It means they're holding nothing back and are serious to screw us. It's as if all these difficult looking books were carelessly crammed into it. They're supposedly professionals and if they really had time adequate to translate it this is really of no excuse. To think a game would appear as such after nearly a decade. There's rarely a place that'll accept something like this. They might have done a variety of things in hiding, those troublemakers, girls of rumor, infamous transfer students, but now they are done for along with this terrifical franchise. For serious, nothing is cromulent about words like "abominous" in your localization.

I really just don't understand how people could defend this. I'm sure the rest of the game is fantastic but Atlus USA really has a lot to answer for here. Why chose their lot as your hill to die on?

It's a fucking mystery what made the Bush years so goddamn great for localization. 2000-2010 or so was really the golden age.

are you being ironic or are you really that worked up over this. the combined screentime of all of these screenshots is probably less than a minute in a ~80 hour game. it's really not that big a deal. if anything, i have more a problem with the english VAs pronunciation of names

I'm not that worked up I'm just calling out a shitty service when I see it. It's not as bad as some other recent Treehouse and NISA localizations but they really shouldn't be the industry standard. Yes it's a 100 hour game but seeing so many broken translations kinda puts me off paying full price. It just betrays a lack of care and rigor among the translation team. I know they're paid pennies but I'm sure the vast majority of fans would rather the English VA money to go into their paychecks instead of Ashly Burch or whoever. The backlash is mostly just due to localization teams having pretty low clout nowadays so I'm probably just buying into /v/irgin mob mentality.

Also isn't it dual audio?

errors or no, i really dont think it should be putting people off from playing it- if people are that concerned, there's also the potential for atlus to update/correct things, thanks to it being on online consoles. as far as quality goes, atlus certainly did a lot worse in older persona localizations (revelations taking the cake for trying to disguise its japanese origins and having like half the game missing)

the japanese audio isn't on the disc, but you can download it from the store for free at any time

Yeah I'm going to wait for patches definitely. It just kind of makes me sad that the game's been delayed for years and by the end the translators probably just didn't have time to do their job.

Revelations had an legendarily botched localization but it's a fun relic of the time. So many great negotiation lines I'll never forget a la "Go kill yourself!" and "A lady, you hear me? Not a kid! I want to fuse with a fine woman!"

But that was 20 odd years ago.
