tried renai boukun but it wasn't very funny. only watched the first ep though. i was maybe thinking of trying snb after finishing youjo senki just to see what it's about. i see it advertised a lot but almost no one i know is watching it.

They'd gone private anyway and somehow I doubt you had an account. But yeah this is what happens when fucking Amazon decides to join the party. The real loss with nyaa was everything that wasn't anime.

Gag anime is my favorite genre and I always watch it with friends so that might skew my perception. "Once you see enough things try to be smart and good and fail, you appreciate  things that try to be stupid and bad and succeed brilliantly," - friend on our taste in anime.

Watched Renai Boukun..... the first episode makes it seem like harem trash. Made me laugh twice but was otherwise kind of shallow. ON TO THE NEXT SHOW!

aside from the weird eyes and mouths people can't stop memeing over i find it passable. the first half of ep 11 had some of the best animation i've ever seen come out of a studio debut. i hope the anime succeeds in BD sales because i look forward to seeing what studio nut can grow into. for a studio's first anime, it's more than adequate.

I got about halfway through episode 2 and it just struck me as so fedora-tippingly reddit I couldn't bear it. That and I did find the art pretty hideous but I usually care more about that than animation. Might give it another shot.

These are my favorites this season so far:

Renai Boukun: Funny as fuck don't miss it. Some ugly deformed art but it's on purpose and you'll get over it trust me.
Rokudenashi Majutsu Koushi to Akashic Records: I was expecting Golden Boy/GTO at Magic High School. Not quite that good but still promising. Good example of magic rules and lore done well (sorry LWA).
Zero kara Hajimeru Mahou no Sho: I've only seen the first episode but it was among the best this season once you get past the hilariously bad Guin Saga/Thundercats-esque catman design. Good example of magic rules and lore done well (sorry LWA)^[2]. Avoid Horriblesubs' translation as it contains Skyrim memes.

Everything else I either like despite knowing better, am ambivalent about, or dropped. Blu was right most of the really good stuff this season is continuations especially Boku no Hero and Shingeki no Bahamut.
*except SnK fuck SnK. SnB >>>>> SnK get fucked.

 Youjo Senki was the best anime last season! But as I mentioned elsewhere, the frog faces were the hardest design choice to ignore.

It's one you get used to and it especially fits Tanya.

No it's even more full of the usual tropes and cliches than you now know. Run now if you only like Serious and Deep anime.

On another note, there will never be another GTO or Golden Boy with the current state of anime. The guys making anime are too... Otaku at this point.

Plenty of anime are lighthearted and it doesn't hinder their storytelling. LWA is just patronizing imo.

Still a tossup between Urara Meirochou, GabDrop, Akibastrip and Kemono Friends for me. Haven't finished the latter two yet. Kuzu no Honkai and Masamune-kun ended up being like 4-5/10.

i'm assuming you're referring to Tanya's interactions with "Being X". if it bothers you that much, he doesn't show up that often - and even though i haven't seen the ending yet, so far i haven't even seen ricky gervais once. it's mostly military porn in what is basically WW2 with magic.
