"He was shown the smallness and tinsel emptiness of the little Earth gods, with their petty, human interests and connections - their hatreds, rages, loves and vanities; their craving for praise and sacrifice and their demands for faiths contrary to reason and nature."

Please consider raising your standards. We're not even talking about the writing here.

You, as a capable visual artist/illustrator/whatever should really have higher standards for your less gifted peers.

that was fucking diabolical i revoke my previous statement that was some sfm tier debauchery

zwimmy what do you have to say for your country?

rtil

the animation, models and rigs in this game look like bad student projects. the only people who could possibly make excuses for it would have to be bioware fanboys. to spend as much money as they did on the game and have it come out looking like this is a production disaster. heads should roll for this embarrassment if the upper management has any balls

Still doesn't excuse the complete lack of taste.

i dont think there is a single fucking thing in this scene that is working as intended

"He was shown the smallness and tinsel emptiness of the little Earth gods, with their petty, human interests and connections - their hatreds, rages, loves and vanities; their craving for praise and sacrifice and their demands for faiths contrary to reason and nature."

I think that'd be doing Mass Effect wrong. I don't know about Andromeda but the last two weren't awful in combat (whereas the first hasn't aged very well), and there are some fun ideas, but it wouldn't really be a huge selling point for the series. Multiplayer in the third game was sort of fun if you played it with friends.

soup

not too sure what your point is? gameplay in the other mass effect games was lackluster, so having a mass effect game with competent combat would be... a bad mass effect game?

i personally prefer games that actually feel good to play far more than something incredibly dependent on art or story. i can appreciate a good story when a game includes one, but if the mechanics of the game are a chore / feel bad to slug through im not gonna get to the end of it because the game aint fun

vice versa the story and art might be complete shit, but if it actually feels fun to play i really dont care. gimme them big gibs and meaty feedback

isnt this the exact reason why EA slapped the mass effect name onto this shit show? produce it as cheaply and quickly as possible and people would buy it anyway because it was Mass Effect no matter how objectively fucking atrocious the game was in the end haha.

Why not have both? If you're looking for great action mechanics in an RPG you already know the pickings are slim and you're better off in shooting/fighting/character action genres (I think this is akin to what Unless was trying to say mayhap).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't cheap hires like the artists in ME:A be driving people with actual talent like you and rtil out of this industry? They and outsourced labor are literally taking your jobs and you should be somewhat outraged #MVGA (make vidya great again) am I not right?

yeh i thought unless was trying to imply that they didnt have to bother making any improvements to the actual gameplay because thats not what mass effect as a series is know for. which kind of baffled me because the idea of a video game that feels bad to play is entirely contradictory.

having great art story and gameplay all together makes for a brilliant video game for sure, and i definitely own and love a good few that do exactly that. thats awesome. but i dont feel that the gameplay should ever be taking a back seat to the visuals and story

im not trying to validate what EA did. its atrocious that their business model seems to extend to milking well known titles to the point where theyre just a shell of what they were. i was trying to acknowledge that they seemingly released a "passable" game that was rushed for countless reasons because they knew the title alone would encourage people to buy it and solid gameplay would keep the ratings alright.

in a perfect world yeh youd get the best writers, artists and developers together to make some really cool games, but for EA it seems more like "what can we get away with" which sucks

i'm entirely aware that EA rots the studios they buy from the inside out, but i'm not going out and doxxing underpaid wage slaves for their shit work on the game. i'm just saying it's shit. plenty of young and inexperienced animators are capable of creating good work under stressful environments, hell, that's what going to school for is supposed to prepare you for. if you want to go even further back, it's the schools' faults for letting these students graduate, because their work clearly isn't worthy of a BFA. but for all i know these people might not even have degrees. at the very least i'd hope they had a reel. either way, bioware is irresponsible for hiring them if they are that bad. it's just shit all around.

Bamyasi

Oh yeah I just thought it was funny you mentioned bad student projects when it seems like that's possibly what ME:A literally was. Didn't mean to direct the rest of that cap at you.

I actually probably agree I'm just less likely to notice bad mechanics if the story, art and animations are all pretty and more likely to hate a game if they're not. All the games I love have good mechanics I think even if a lot of people would say stuff like Drakengard, Silent Hill and killer7 does not.

There's also a lot of kusoge out there whose godawful mechanics I find endearing because of how downright zany and interesting everything else about them is:

Different priorities I guess!
