Oh yeah I just thought it was funny you mentioned bad student projects when it seems like that's possibly what ME:A literally was.

i wouldn't be surprised. the post is accurate in the fact that these companies prey on young grads. they are optimistic, naive and will take almost any job they can get. they are easy to exploit with crap contracts with next to no benefits. they see artists as disposable. it's after projects like these that their bitter cynicism begins to set in

You can see the improvements in the gameplay as the series has gone on, but it's never been a huge selling point for the series. I've played through Mass Effect 1 so many times I should probably be embarrassed, and while I had a bit of fun fucking about with different combat things it definitely wasn't what kept me coming back. I'm okay with playing through a game that has only okay mechanics if the story intrigues me, but I totally get why that doesn't appeal to a lot of people. And I'm good with playing through a game with great gameplay mechanics and a lacklustre story. Unfortunately I feel a lot of triple A games nowadays are just a mediocre, uninspired middle ground between the two.

Anyway my point is that while it is steadily improving its gameplay, I don't think that's ever going to be the primary focus of Mass Effect even if EA does have their weird and wonderful and wicked way with it, so if you go into this game expecting some great gameplay and have the story and characters and setting as secondary concerns then you'll probably be disappointed.

I actually probably agree I'm just less likely to notice bad mechanics if the story, art and animations are all pretty and more likely to hate a game if they're not. All the games I love have good mechanics I think even if a lot of people would say stuff like Drakengard, Silent Hill and killer7 does not.
what dickhead doesnt think silent hill or killer7 have good mechanics

Please don't Andromedapologize Unless this game has huge unsightly ass in it that should be reason enough for the IFCO to ban it in your country.

Have they made any reference to the fact that the aliens are all humanoid in shape? It was referenced very briefly in the first book and never again as far as I remember. I had liked to think that it was something the Protheans had done in their raising of the current cycle's races, but now they're in an entirely new galaxy and yet creatures still have the same body shape and eyes and mouth and emotional range and I'd really like a reason better than budget restraints and human relatability at this point.

If the writers had had players try to interact with aliens in a game that were not human and had little to no human mannerisms the game would be a nightmare to play because players have no expectation or ability to handle something like that. It would be an even more autismal adventure than it currently is.

Humanity or bust fuck anything else

I can appreciate why they'd do it from a human relatable standpoint and I'm sure it cuts cost as well, which is why there were paint jobs on the Varren to be classified as different species in ME1. I'm just hoping for some sort of in-game explanation as to why. In the first book, Anderson acknowledged in some brief internal dialogue that there may be some sort of evolutionary benefit to being humanoid-shaped but I don't recall it being brought up again throughout the entire series. The books have been ret-conned by the games a couple of times though (even before Deception or ME3 came out), so I was hoping for somebody in the game universe to at least acknowledge that it's weird. I'd liked to think that the Protheans shaped the younger races' evolutionary paths in their own image, just like the Reapers and quarians did.

Please refrain from talking about ways this game could be good I mean let's try to have some standards here.
