want to get a new pair of chuck taylors but i don't think they're acceptable to wear past a certain age

Who cares, go for it! There's a updated version called the Chuck Taylor II which has more modern materials.

I like chucks myself but my personal favroite are the Puma Speeders.

They don't really make them anymore, but I found a pair of whirlwinds that are basically the same after my speeders wore out.

Sometimes after I exercise I get lazy and don't change my shoes so I spend the rest of the day wearing my still-sweaty sneakers.
