89.3 The Current presents 893 essential albums

89.3 The Current, the radio station that started the nationwide stream of Prince's "Nothing Compares 2 U" the other day, has compiled a list of 893 essential albums, as chosen by the listeners. They're not releasing it all at once, so over the next week, they are playing one song from each album, in order from 893rd to 1st, I will update this thread daily as the albums are revealed.

There was a large number of radiostations that played Prince's "Nothing Compares 2 U" the other day, because he starts the song saying "it was 7 hours and 13 days ago", they played it at 5:07pm cdt, 7 hours and 13 days after his death

This musical chart suggests that its albums are essential for everybody even though most people don't have varied enough musical interests to appreciate them all and is therefore wrong.

yeah it's a small sample size and it's biased towards MN music but who cares! i thought it was really neat that a LISTENER SUPPORTED public radio station had what it takes to compile such a huge list

i was just pointing out they never implied it was for everyone. no one on earth is going to agree with all 893 albums in the exact places that they are ofc

I was just pointing out there's not really such a thing as 900 albums specifically that could be essential to (m)anybody.
And sure, it's biased. But it is still pretty neat, yeah.
