In an effort to not have this degrade into a pls listen to my song but i wont listen to any of yours thread, at least for me, I've at least skimmed all the posts that are legible and English.

Same here, though I'm guilty of not listening to most of the songs. I'm a massive lyric snob most of the time, if a song isn't well-written then I don't bother with it unless it's some form of heavy metal, prog rock, or really catchy pop (with numerous individual exceptions, but still). I'll check yours as soon as the album I'm currently listening to ends.

This is how all these threads turn out. It's not bad it's just normal. I haven't even read any of the other posts in this thread and I wouldn't put it past anyone if they hadn't read mine. But maybe if someone saw a lyric that seemed interesting they could ask me what it was and I'd tell them and they'd respond "Bam, thank you ma'am," and I'd say "Get on the floor and jam. It's the QCD on the microphone. Girl you got me in the zone. C'mon, c'mon and start the game. Break it down, tell me your name. We the team, I'm the coach. Let's dance all night from coast to coast. Just slide, from left to right. Just slide, yourself the night. QCD, drop the base. 3-point-1 all in your face. Jam on it, let's have some fun. Jam on it, one on one. You run the hole and I run the 'D'. So c'mon baby just jam for me. Everybody get up it's time to slam now. We got a real jam goin' down. Welcome to the Space Jam. Here's your chance do your dance at the Space Jam. Alright? Wave your hands in the air if you feel fine. We're gonna take it into overtime. Welcome to the Space Jam. Here's your chance, do your dance at the Space Jam. Alright?"

I've read all the lyrics but I haven't listened to any of the songs cause I didn't think that mattered.

I want to be rich and I want lots of money
I don't care about clever I don't care about funny
I want loads of clothes and fuckloads of diamonds
I heard people die while they are trying to find them

I'll take my clothes off and it will be shameless
Cause everyone knows that's how you get famous
I'll look at the sun and I'll look in the mirror
I'm on the right track yeah I'm on to a winner

I don't know what's right and what's real anymore
I don't know how I'm meant to feel anymore
When do you think it will all become clear
And I'll be taken over by the fear

Life's about film stars and less about mothers
It's all about fast cars and cussing each other
But it doesn't matter cause I'm packing plastic
And that's what makes my life so fuckin' fantastic

And I am a weapon of massive consumption
And its not my fault it's how I'm programmed to function
I'll look at the sun and I'll look in the mirror
I'm on the right track yeah I'm on to a winner

I don't know what's right and what's real anymore
I don't know how I'm meant to feel anymore
When do you think it will all become clear
And I'll be taken over by the fear

Forget about guns and forget ammunition
Cause I'm killing them all on my own little mission
Now I'm not a saint but I'm not a sinner
Now everything is cool as long as I'm getting thinner

I don't know what's right and what's real anymore
I don't know how I'm meant to feel anymore
When do you think it will all become clear
And I'll be taken over by the fear

I'd love to find more music like this sad dreamy artificial pop junk but alas.

I've read all the lyrics
Me too I was just making fun of people broadcasting whether or not they had and derailing/breaking the combo.

Also for someone who thinks music is subjective like Proto to throw around words like "written well" is a bit hypocritical.

Lyrics are by definition subjective, whereas music can be measured mathematically.

Whether or not music is good is subjective. Something can be technically horrible but still be considered good, case in point a massive amount of grindcore and noise.

And by 'well written' I mean having interesting rhyme schemes/hooks/choruses/what have you. Any of those, not necessarily all, otherwise I wouldn't have much to listen to, now would I?

Okay my thoughts are a bit muddied right now, but even now I realize that was a poorly written post on my part. I could go over my stance a lot better in IRC if you're game.

It depends how much you like music vs. how much you like poetry.

True. I don't necessarily think that music is entirely subjective btw, just the enjoyment of it. My opinions have changed over the past couple months, it's... odd. Next time you're in IRC I can try to ramble at you and run down the internal logic I employ.

Just because there aren't so precise tools for measuring lyrics doesn't mean that they can't be bad.
That you can mathematically measure how bland or complicated something is doesn't mean that you can objectively declare it as good or bad.

I very often actively listen to music (though not so much as I used to, what with losing access to a lot of new music from home), doing nothing but appreciating lossless files with good headphones. My tastes swing back and forth as often as my moods, but Unexpect is very often one of my Universal favourites. Their stuff is detailed, complex, very busy, and very often not even enjoyable on ones first listening. They're pretty great. I used to think they were objectively better than most because of the complexity of the music.

If I'm smoking with friends and kicking back, the music that gets played is something with a nice tune and/or deep or relatable lyrics with some solid yet simple and unadventurous instrumentation. And right in this moment, this music isn't worse for being mathematically simpler, it's legitimately perfect. The song I linked earlier was an example of the latter.

Any one way of listening to music isn't the right way, nor is any opinion in or less valid.

Unless you listen to nightcore, in which case you can basically go eat a dick sandwich.

Sounds good.

How does it feel to treat me like you do
When you've laid your hands upon me
And told me who you are
I thought I was mistaken
I thought I heard your words
Tell me, how do I feel
Tell me now, how do I feel

Those who came before me
Lived through their vocations
From the past until completion
They'll turn away no more
And I still find it so hard
To say what I need to say
But I'm quite sure that you'll tell me
Just how I should feel today

I see a ship in the harbor
I can and shall obey
But if it wasn't for your misfortune
I'd be a heavenly person today
And I thought I was mistaken
And I thought I heard you speak
Tell me how do I feel
Tell me now, how should I feel

Now I stand here waiting

I thought I told you to leave me
While I walked down to the beach
Tell me how does it feel
When your heart grows cold (grows cold)

Most of them rhymed, I was just waiting for people to point out all the spelling mistakes it has, which is funny to me considering it's an official release.

I was teasing you because your last post wasn't lyrics. I wasn't talking about the song silly.

BluPhoenix

You look smart
But I don't care
I'm not looking for no love affair
I'd sell you my soul just to get me somewhere

What's there to do in this deadout town?
Oh, I can't believe I live here now
So I'm searching for cheap thrills some way and somehow

Sixteen, so sweet
Sixteen, so sweet

Wait, waiting
I give in

Find me a ride and make it bright and early
What makes you smile just makes me feel funny
So who's gonna love me here and where's all the money?

What's there to do? I've got nothing in this deadout town
Oh, I can't believe I live here now
So I'm searching for cheap thrills the way I know how

Sixteen, so sweet
Sixteen, so sweet

As I sit here waiting, palms itching
I hear the wheels breaking, train coming
[12:59 AM] elm: yea honestly if you dont want to cum on elmer fudds bald head whats wrong with you
[07:49.46] <+slack> cum erupts from the dick at an alarming rate
[07:49.59] <+slack> it will blast off and slap the wall at like 40 mph

Get out on the floor
Do things to make 'em adore you
Show 'em why you were born
And put a little mustard on it

Don't tell me what time it is now
Don't tell me what time it is now
I know what time it is now
I know what time it is now

It's show time!
Show time!

Teach the world to move to your sound
Hop around and twirl around
And put a little mustard on it

Don't tell me who to love or hate now
Don't tell me who to love or hate now
Don't tell me who to love or hate now
Don't tell me who to love or hate now
'Cause I'm totally filled with hate now
I'm totally filled with hate now

It's show time!

One for the money
Two for the..... show

It is all done with computers

Hey mister!
Put a little mustard on that mustard!

Don't tell me how to do my job now
Don't tell me how to do my job now
Don't tell me how to do my job now
'Cause I'm totally doin' my job now
I'm totally doin' my job now

Show time!

Bolt Thrower - Those Once Loyal

=====

Valiant in the midst of conflict
In memoriam honours distinctive
At half-mast the colours are raised
The tragic waste of life once gave

Immortalised plaque of remembrance
With reverence their names are listed
Glorified and in honour held
In commemorance of those that fell

To those once loyal now wreathed in crimson
Solemn reminder of silent sacrifice
To the once loyal forever wrapped in glory
In white crossed acres - lines of sorrow laid

To those once loyal now wreathed in crimson
Solemn reminder of silent sacrifice
To the once loyal forever wrapped in glory
In white crossed acres - lines of sorrow laid

Brave are the deeds
Of fallen victorious
Never forgotten
Lonely are the glorious

Oho, so that's why. It seemed out of place as just words, but not when it's in the track itself.
