lol, can't you unlock the original thread? or is that not allowed? well, since we're here anyways, i'll just make some rambling scatter shot comments.

there were some really good replies in the old thread. i think that pedophilia has got to be one of those personal, sexual preferences which are difficult to change. i don't really think pedophilia is a mental illness in completely the same way that depression, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder are mental illnesses.

i think that pedophilia is comparable to having chronic anger management issues. while it's not "your fault" that you happened to be born predisposed towards anger or pedophilia, you still have agency in the sense that you can (and should) control these urges. yes, it's pretty unnatural to suppress your instincts, but humans are actually quite good at training their instincts and disciplining themselves towards unnatural goals (examples include: waking up early to go to work; wearing clothes instead of being naked all the time; reading books instead of throwing feces in the jungle; holding in your farts when you're around someone you want to impress).

i agree that loli shouldn't be banned, but i don't think it's correct at all to say that the existence of loli does some sort of good by "being a sexual outlet". if anything, i think that excessive exposure to loli would just amplify someone's sexual perversions, much in the same way a lifetime of staring at internet porn tends to make people more sexually distorted. but of course everyone is different and it's a little dumb to ban porn just because you think that, in so doing, you're helping people towards the virtuous life.

i think that most online reddit-tier ephebophiles are way too shamelessly defensive of their sexual habits and need to look in the mirror and admit that pedophilia is just fundamentally incompatible with a modern 21st century lifestyle. ephebophilia might have a basis in natural evolutionary instinct, but we don't just do everything that's natural, and we don't live as if evolution is law.

I cannot unlock the other thread but if rtil wants to do so/merge these two I'd be all for it.

Agreed about it not being a mental illness. It's really just a paraphilia (in the same way everything that doesn't make the penis go into the vagina and form baby is a paraphilia).

I was talking more about VR being a sexual outlet (it's probably gross to think about for some, but then again so is most porn (for me at least)).

I guess the evolutionary defense of ephebophilia would be that most humans are naturally attracted to neoteny, which according to a lot of evolutionary biologists is responsible for the genetic drift from dumb, hairy, quadrupedal apes with small cranial structures and pronounced jaws to dumb, hairless bipedal homo sapiens with big baby heads and goo-goo eyes.

Still a stupid argument.

This post speaks to me.

This one of two real reasons I don't think paedophilic VR experiences are a fantastic idea. The other is that you're right in that being a paedophile in today's society is totally unsustainable and all that, and that it's generally a good idea to exercise your ability to control your urges to which you are predisposed anyway. I'm not opposed to diverging from society's standards of what's okay, but doing so in a format that also is prone to turning you into a social recluse is never a good idea if you want to be able to actually function in a real social environment that isn't a small internet forum or Tumblr group consisting of like-minded individuals. If you don't want this, then I would highly recommend raising your standards and checking again.

Sounds like you're against VR in general, in which case I sympathize.

I still think that VR use shouldn't be encouraged in this case. It's kind of like being on a diet and browsing foodporn images. You're just enticing yourself.

rtil

well it's going to happen anyway and none of us can stop it from happening

VR isn't going to change the fact that there are people who can't function properly in society, it's simply a new outlet for them

basketweaver

Yeah, i don't disagree with that, and I'm not saying VR use should be banned. I'm just saying it shouldn't be encouraged as a purely "harmless" activity, since you're only creating bad habits with it.

It could be argued that porn (/hentai) does more to debilitate than entice in cases like these (see: Japan), but I don't have the data so I won't. All I can say is that picking your favorite fetish and then never looking at porn of it again is probably harder than it sounds for people who don't have them, especially to those with weak virtues and wills (see: people who look at porn). To the more healthy among us it would be like never again looking at porn of consensual sex in the missionary position or naked women with come-hither expressions or hand holding or whatever.

A thousand times this.

Bad habits for VR immersion, maybe. Who can say. It's all hypothetical at this point.

That guy gets it.

Also if that show didn't have Eros or whatever in it dumbing down all the jokes it would have been 10/10.
