didn't really see a place here yet to talk about this game so here goes

first off, who has this game? i'd like to challenge anyone that does

He's really strong in For Glory mode because every stage is just FD, but we're starting to figure him out in the competitive scene. All you need to do is counter-pick to a stage with platforms and force him to fight off the ground. His recovery is super easy to gimp too.

Really don't like what they did to Zero Suit. Her side b no longer hits people into the sweet spot if you use it too close. Her down smash stun doesn't last as long and sends people flying when it ends instead of popping them up for a guaranteed finisher. Her up b is her only reliable combo finisher and people can just mash air dodge/counter/ or di out of it.

Probably just going to stick to Sheik and C. Falcon for now.

slack

well the last smash i played competitively was melee, but i'm really enjoying zero suit samus, she's done me more than good in for glory

both links are doing rather well for me also, still trying to sort out which of them i prefer

king dedede and wario are pretty fun as well

crackers

zero suit samus (from what i've read/seen) is definitely A tier, if not S tier. She has so much mobility, almost on par with fox (also her final smash is OP)

Final Smashes don't matter because the competitive scene doesn't play with items on. Early reports had her at top tier because the invitational tournament Nintendo hosted had Zero dominating with her, and that was the only tournament featuring pro players that we could base any tiers off of. Nintendo's ruleset isn't very conducive to competitive play the begin with, so the idea that ZSS is top tier is highly exaggerated. She just doesn't have reliable methods of killing people under 150%. Sheik can do everything ZSS can and actually kill people, plus has better recovery options, so I think she'll be the stronger pick.

Lots of top smash players say Rosalina is really strong too. I can see it, but I'm so bad at managing Luma that I don't even bother.

i'm surprised nintendo even cares about the competitive smash scene at all considering they never have in the past and will probably never balance the game to support competitive play either. always blew my mind that there was even a competitive scene for a game that its creators don't give a shit about in that aspect

It's a little more complicated than that. Sakurai himself has said that he's most proud of Melee out of all the entries in the series, and that the dev team was aware of Wave Dashing and other technical maneuvers during development and decided to leave them in. It sounds like Nintendo's neglect of competitive play and the dumbing down from Melee to Brawl was an executive decision, as Sakurai commented that there were concerns the skill gap between veterans and new players was getting to be too high.

With Smash 4, the Invitational and Open tournaments, For Glory Mode and their official sponsoring of Apex, it sounds like Nintendo is finally deciding that if they can't stop people from playing Smash competitively, they might as well be a part of it. Doubtless the PR Disaster with Melee and EVO contributed to their reconsidering. I honestly don't know how I feel about it. I appreciate their efforts to try rather than shunning us completely, but it feels like they really just don't "get" it yet. People blamed the competitive scene for For Glory Mode's completely flat stages when competitive play is actually played on stages with platforms more often than not. It also means that Project M and all the work that team has done is basically going to waste. They're patching the game and trying to balance it though, so maybe the future will be different.

gee it only took them a decade to change their minds

I play this game sometimes. I'd be happy to spar against anyone who wants to play.

My Wii U ID is billymonks.

So with Paragon and Apex over, /r/smashbros came up with this tier list:

Paragon Results
Apex Results

It's interesting that they're putting ZSS at low S-tier. I still disagree on that one, A-tier maybe, but Nick Riddle is the only one to make top 16 with her in either tournament. Nairo and ZeRo are known for having great ZSS and they still didn't use her. Maybe there's some tech with her that isn't fully developed yet, idk, things can change. I just hate playing her into bananas and lumas.

crackers

seen a couple of videos with ness, that shows his back throw with ridiculous KO potential so im not surprised

rosalina is definitely overrated though

Pixogon

I main sonic all day everyday (sometimes capt. falcon) but still, I don't give a damn if he's annoying. Plus the sheer fact that he is an annoyance just makes playing him much more enjoyable (but I don't spam side B like a wanker)
*Some witty quote that goes with everything*
