If you want good female characters (protagonists and antagonists) watch the first series.
Okay I'm officially convinced.

It really feels similar to what George Lucas did with the Star Wars prequels.

oh god

korra needs a plinkett review

crackers

watched this and it's a kids show with no real depth of plot, locking this thread

I'm rewatching the last airbender and i'm very convinced that a lot of what is missing in Korra is in the original show. I couldn't stand season 2, it felt like Ep 1 of star wars. Just very slow and kind of boring. I also can't grasp the leap in technology over 70 years or so but w/e it's not that important. And yes, Aang and his friend's were much more enjoyable to watch to than the current group. I hope season 3 changes that.

Shouldn't be that hard. Think about it, first powered flight was 1903. We had computers and put a man on the moon by 1969. That isn't even 70 years, and we didn't even have people who could shoot lightning and fire out of their hands.
Well, guess I was wrong about Kai being a younger version of the new bad guy, but wasn't too far off with the old crew being familiar with this season's villains. Also, Zuko and Eska's exchange in the elevator made me giggle.

I'm usually really bad at getting hopes up only to be disappointed, but the writing definitely seems a bit better this time around. Sure, it's all tropes and archetypes, but the execution so far has been good enough for me. Most of it at least has made me smile rather than cringe, so maybe this season will be better than #2

i also agree that the writing so far seems much better than season 2. no relationship drama bullshit, Asami and Korra as friends and poking fun at their super cereal ex Mako.

i also like Korra's attitude this time around. she's not being a bitch to people who have been nothing but supportive of her unlike the last two seasons, although she can still be quick to act without asking first, like when she attacked those earthbender police officers who were chasing Kai, assuming they were bandits. seems like for the most part she has actually learned from her past and grown as a character.

the new team of villains seem pretty badass, i am especially interested in the woman who can replace her missing arms with water. i am curious why they are locked up and how they got their bending skills.

funny to see that Ba Sing Se is still such a fucked up country after all these years as well. some things never change. Earth Queen is obviously in on this downfall of the avatar scheme. she has quite the axe to grind.
I couldn't resist the temptation and went and saw the leaked episodes (4, 5, and 6). Yep, safe to say this season is definitely much stronger.
They gave Lin some back story. I really like Su Jin, her family and her history with Lin, it was pretty well done. Opal is a real cutie too, I hope she joins the crew as permanent airbender (Jinora and Kai being a bit too young next to Korra Mako and Bolin). They also implied that Toph could be secretly alive somewhere, what. I guess being the youngest of the original cast it shouldn't come as a surprise. Oh and also apparently Toph got around in her adult life, which is hilarious and exactly what I'd expect of her.
damn those leaked too? get your shit together nick
Not like she needs it anyway, if you've been following the comics the latest arc is about her finally running into her Dad again.

Still laughing over the fact that Toph has two daughters and they don't know who their fathers are.
i do not follow the comic nor have i read any of them

i just want to see her

i managed to get into TLOK panel this year at comic-con, which is likely to be the last. Mike started out by addressing this topic first. basically, Mike explained that Nick had been planning to do this for a while, but then shelved the idea. then, they changed their minds and decided to do it to Korra partway through the season. Mike sounded kind of annoyed at this, because they basically weren't told ahead of time and it's kind of stupid to do it in the middle of the season. According to Mike, while Korra doesn't do as well on TV, it gets much more viewership through online and streaming media, and that's Nick's justification for doing so.

another thing Mike said was that Nick has had trouble fitting TLOK in their demographic. but i think we all know that TLOK suffers in ratings because Nick is horrible at advertising it and puts it in death slots. but of course Mike wasn't going to say that. the cast was introduced by one of Nick's animation executives.

that being said, he said it won't affect the story they want to tell and Book 4 is continuing as planned. Basically all that's left at this point is for Studio Mir to finish the animation.

and with a future in online media, maybe any possible future Avatar shows won't be restricted by keeping things PG. but probably not, unless another producer besides Nick picks them up. and at this point, i hope that could be possible, because it really still seems like Nick doesn't care about the show.

also, i got to see episode 8 as well as some pencil tests from Mir, which included some clips from future episodes. the season just keeps getting better and episode 8 has a few great twists that speed the plot up. and it looks like there's gonna be a big throwdown between the new villains vs Lin, Mako and Bolin and probably everyone else based on the pencil tests i saw. and, according to Varrick's VA, we're going to hear about Varrick's childhood at some point. i don't know why and i don't know how important it is, but i'm sure it will be funny.
im not one for trying to make big predictions, but after watching this episode, im betting suyin is part of the red lotus as well. finding out that unalaq and aiwei were part of the red lotus too suggests that there might be more members who weren't captured, and that their network might be as big as the white lotus even. particularly because of zaheer's reveal on what the red lotus's goals are, and thinking about su's line about the earth queen to korra, something about how the queen thinks she can do whatever she wants and how monarchy is outdated, and then asking korra what she thinks about it, prompting the same philosophical thought that zaheer provoked in this episode. also other possible hints, like when it turned out that aiwei was a traitor, su didn't seem all that surprised, and then su sending korra and the others off that night secretly, su's anarchistic past, the fact that she traveled the world in exile for a long time, etc
