Global warming is far more complicated than a lot of people like to admit. Yes, the planet has warmed up. But one must wonder the total influence of humanity on it. Many label humanity as the sole source of the warming which is completely ridiculous. They act as if the planet would remain static if it weren't for humans. The earth is in a continuous cycle of warming and cooling. In fact it was WARMER in the middle ages than it is now. That was right before it got really cold, in what is known as the "mini-ice age". I think that humanity has had an impact and has accelerated things, however I do not foresee the dooms day that everyone predicts. I've read books covering both sides. The book that said that global warming will destory the earth made all sorts of predictions, and every single one of them was wrong. Another book opposed to global warming (which was written much more recently) pointed out the failure of climate models to really predict anything. So if they can't predict the weather next year, how can we expect them to accurately model the weather 50 years from now?

Yes, humanity should cut down on the greenhouse emissions, but that isn't going to happen any time soon. As long as the entire GDP of various countries rests on the export of oil, they will do everything in their power to crush alternative fuel sources. It's estimated that there are about 1 trillion barrels of oil left in the planet. That's about 100 trillion dollars in business left to do. And if oil usage goes the way of the dodo then the economies of particular countries (read: the entire Middle East) will collapse. There is more at play than just an unwillingness to cut back on driving.

that was a little too comprehensive.  I don't believe in global warming anyway.  until I hear and see someone who can say "this is 100% true and here is why",  I won't buy into it.  in things like this I want evidence so concrete that even the polar opposite on the subject agrees.

Yes, thank you. I hate it when people say humans are all to blame for global warming when it just goes through cycles. It would be great to cut down on pollution, but it isn't the soul source.

This got me thinking of an episode of Family Ties I saw when I was little. One of the daughters started to get environmentally conscious and got her family to buy only environment safe products. When another daughter got something that was harmful to the environment, the first daughter broke down, started crying, and stated how she was scared, especially with the news reporting the temperature always going up. This episode scared me as a kid (which was probably its intended effect) , but after learning that the planet goes through cycles, I look back at the scene and laugh at how it was a bit ignorant (the temperature part that is).

I'm reminded of "Captain Planet". Did anyone else find it strange that the sole purpose of the bad guys was to pollute the environment? Seriously, that's all they tried to do. They would create amazing technology for the sole purpose of dumping oil into water supplies and starting forest fires.

They just woke up one morning and thought "You know, I'm going to go pollute the planet just for the sake of it. It'll be boss!"

You gotta love how one-dimensional the villains of children cartoons are.

Whenever I hear about that show all I can think is that that little brazillian kid was a bit off.  Was I the only one who thought that?

Irishman

Define "a bit off".

Or at least holding the world at ransom for...  1 MILLION DOLLARS.

Eh, I don't know what to think of this global warning either.  But you gotta admit, it makes one heck of a spectacle with some movies like 'The World After Tomorrow.'  Ah, gotta love the business of living off people's fears.
