the most predictable best picture? gravity. the "underdog" critic favorite? her. film that deserves it? 12 years a slave. i actually would not be too surprised if they picked 12 years a slave to try and apologize for picking gone with the wind in 1940.

while the wolf of wall street was overly long, leo pulled out all the stops in it as an extremely convincing mischievous vile crook with no soul. i think he deserves best actor for once and i think he has a shot

still think frozen is going to win best animated film, and as i've said before the wind rises deserves it. i think the only shot it has is the fact that it is miyazaki's "last" film, even though i can say that it is one of the best animated films of all time and there is no way that frozen is.

i would like to see hobbit 2 win for best vfx, as their rendition of smaug is the best cg animated character i have seen in my life so far. he was so good i went to see the movie 3 times mostly just to see him again. on that note, i think they also deserve the academy for best sound editing for the voice work and sound fx.

I'm happy as long as The Wind Rises wins BAF, The Grandmaster or Inside Llewyn Davis wins Best Cinematography, The Act of Killing wins Best Documentary Feature, and American Hassle and Hyperventilating in Space don't win anything (unless it's Christian Bale). The Wolf of Wall Street is my favorite of the nominees. The Wind Rises, The Grandmaster, The Hunt, and The Act of Killing were my favorite movies overall.

Not that any of this actually matters.

Since Frozen took home the Annie I'd be surprised if the circlejerk at the academy actually gave it to The Wind Rises.

I hope Leo gets an oscar. My friends were joking about how Jennifer Lawrence already has one despite being relatively new to the scene, yet Leo's been lacking for over 15 years.

we need two different categories for this stuff. the wind rises felt completely out of place with those other nominees...

Jennifer Lawrence is one of the most overrated actors of all time.

I was literally just about to post that.

Also nothing I've wanted has been picked so far.

predictable and stupid. that first person shouldn't even be on the fucking academy. or hey, maybe he should, since it's just a shlockfest.

this is part where i would say the Annies are better, but Frozen won best animated feature there as well. I guess The Wind Rises just isn't eurocentric enough for us.

predictable and stupid.
Yeah I still make an emotional investment in my favorites every year though because I'm a hardcore masochist.

Bamyasi

Well at least it wasn't either of the two worst films of the year. I would have been equally happy with this or Philomena.

Looks like Deakins and DiCaprio will never win an Oscar.

rtil

hah, guess i was right about 12 years a slave.

also lol @ all the awards gravity won
