Hey, after 3 years and countless fakes on the internet, the final speech was finally leaked as an audio file. No one knows who was the cause of the leak yet.

Anyways, I took that audio file and put it on the original. By the way, apparently the episode in its entirety is somewhere on the internet, completely uncensored by Comedy Central (although still censored to a degree by South Park Studios, i.e. Muhammed is still a black bar).

You can watch my edit here: http://www.thebackalleys.com/dump/player.php?f=14165

goddamn, comedy central execs are total pussies. that was censored? it was just honest.

that doesn't sound more controversial than the stuff that doesn't get censored. and it IS an honest critique. i thought comedy central execs would be more aware of south park's strong points, instead of censoring them when they show ._.

Well, that just shows how much of a moral fest the show has become. Apparently the media generally thinks that modern American society is too dumb to deal with a bit of satire. Good job breaking it...

just read comments about onion articles you will see that most people do not understand what satire is

Given the context and the whole point of the episode, I can see why some of the Execs decided against it. You have to remember, people were actually dying before this episode aired, over cartoons of Muhammad, and the original artist that started the controversy was nearly assassinated several times. That's why they did this episode in the first place. You can imagine then that an Exec would feel uncomfortable with it. What if, following the airing of this episode, a terror plot was successfully carried out  in, say, Denmark? Even if it was unrelated to the episode, even if SP had little to nothing to do with the terrorist's motivations...can you imagine how that would look? I wouldn't want to wake up the next morning and find out I may or may not have been partially responsible for the deaths of innocents some thousands of miles away, when I had never personally been at risk, and over a cartoon at that. Even if I were a heartless bastard, the PR nightmare would be awful.

the problem is, the second you give in to the fear and do stuff like censorship at the expense of freedom of speech, they win. i think it's ridiculous to say that people who incite the hatred of small-minded people should somehow shoulder any of the blame for their actions when they go out and kill innocent people. they are irrational by nature, and will do it regardless. and if they have the capacity to kill innocent people over something so trivial, they don't deserve to have power over anyone or anything.

the right thing to do is speak up and fight against it in even larger numbers when tragedies like that happen. because the fact is that they are the minority and they do not deserve to be appeased.

I would've done the same thing by the way. I would have censored the part as well.

You have to think about it as if you were in their position. See, in the week between 200 and 201, they actually had terrorist threats against both Trey Parker and Matt Stone as well as the Comedy Central Headquarters. If you were on the board of executives that had to make that decision, you wouldn't necessarily feel fear, but you'd definitely be concerned about your employees, your show runners and their employees. It's easy to say "even with that speech in there, nothing would have happened" and you might be right, but it's a huge assumption to make when it comes to the safety and well-being of other people.

I also agree with you guys that the speech isn't bad, it's not something that would've generated a huge cry-out or anything. That's not the point though. They censored that speech to give the terrorists a sense of achievement, they made them "win" so to speak, thus not risking lives of their employees.

I'm just saying, if you were in their position and you decided not to censor anything more than what Trey and Matt censored and something was to actually happen, it'd be pretty hard to live with. Even if you know that it wasn't your fault per-se, you'd still know that you maybe could have prevented it. I'm fine with what they did, although it most definitely sends out the wrong message about censorship.

wait did trey and matt censor it or did the network censor it?

Kött

I think a message during the blacked out questionable scenes actually stated that the two guys and not the network itself were the ones who decided against it.

The speech at the end was 100% Comedy Central. As were all the Mohammed beeps in the episode. Trey and Matt basically just censored the character of Mohammed and (maybe?) some little things that could be offensive - not sure about the latter one. But yeah, the speech and Mohammed beeps was Comedy Central alone.

rtil

but didn't they have to censor mohammed anyway?

legally yes, because otherwise comedy central wouldn't have shown it but also because the story wouldn't have made any sense otherwise. So yeah.

W.A.C.

Comedy Central should've never censored the episode. It just made the network look like it's run by a bunch of cowards.

Edit-

Thank you Psi for uploading the clip with the audio uncensored.

naturally

i actually watched both of these episodes for the first time only a few days ago because i've been watching every season in anticipation of the game, and i was more than a little amused with the topic, considering how ballsy it was, but the huge bleep over that entire speech at the end caught me completely off guard. i almost thought it was a joke, because the only dialogue is "you see, i learned something today" BLEEP "that's right," BLEEP "that's right friends!" BLEEP "yeah." it's more than a little antagonizing.

after hearing what was actually said, that's probably one of the most ironic things i've ever seen happen in south park history. it's almost depressing that they felt they had to censor it, because it just defeats the purpose of what they're obviously trying to get across during both of the episodes. i don't think it means the network is run by cowards, but i do think it says a lot about how free speech is handled in general when violence becomes involved.

it's almost scary how much the episodes ended up mirroring reality.
