every time i went into town to see the worlds end it was sold out

but i still desperately want to see it, considering it's the finale in the wonderful cornetto trilogy

"He was shown the smallness and tinsel emptiness of the little Earth gods, with their petty, human interests and connections - their hatreds, rages, loves and vanities; their craving for praise and sacrifice and their demands for faiths contrary to reason and nature."

"...it stimulates the part of the brain called "shatners-bassoon", and that's the bit of the brain that deals with...time perception..."

I look forward to hearing your thoughts!

World's End was brilliant. Just the right amount of funny and uncomfortably-close-to-home life problems. The beginning was a bit slow, had me doubting, but as soon as the sci-fi element kicks off it's nonstop awesome.

The World's End was okay in my opinion. Edgar Wright trying to juggle the two most exhausting genres (action and comedy) is something I think he's done well the past, but this time I just found it a bit overstimulating. I actually really liked the tone for the first twenty minutes or so, and kind of wish they had gone back to just making cringe humor, but by the time
Simon Peg and friends beat up a bunch of replicants in a restroom, I knew it was too late, it had already turned into Attack the Block. I think it would have been funnier if all the conspiratorial/transhumanist motifs had been imagined by Gary King and his friends, but that probably wouldn't have worked. Maybe it needed to be literal.
Maybe I just went in expecting something more laid-back, which is probably why I had the exact opposite reaction as Gilthwixt. Plus, I had already seen You're Next, which is like so hilarious you guys.

The two movies aren't really comparable aside from getting wide releases on the same date, but I felt like I actually laughed internally a lot more seeing You're Next. It's a horror-comedy, so it wasn't just because I find gore hilarious (I actually don't it kind of upsets me and mostly in western horror I find it distasteful), but I think it was because the writers didn't seem to be trying too hard abide the conventions of either genre, it just seemed to happen naturally. It didn't feel natural in The World's End. The jokes were also more sparse, but I found every single one hilarious. Same with Pacific Rim. Maybe I just have a terrible sense of humor.

As far as recent semi-satirical horror movies go, I'd rank it alongside The Cabin in the Woods and Drag Me to Hell. ~Seal of Approval~

See that under my rank and picture? It's a disclaimer. I'm a total fraud and have shit taste  :wile:

I always read your name "Getwithit."

I went to see both, and I thought they were pretty great!

I had a lot to say about 'you're next', because at times, it felt so unintentionally stupid- the characters, anyway.
why are the killers using crossbows, the weapon with an ungodly reload time? why do the characters suddenly lose all sense of urgency? why are the survivors so open to peering out of windows, when one of them gets shot through one? why is he going towards the blinking light in complete darkness? why is it a priority to have sex next to a deceased parent, if there's still more people on the loose? why is that even a priority to begin with?
all in all, I enjoyed both films quite a lot

Looks like someone forgot to turn off their brain.
I'm pretty sure all of those things were intentionally stupid.
BluPhoenix
