Didn't care much for that Pinkshinyultrablast album when I sampled it a month or so ago, but I'll give it another listen if you say it's good.

Thank you for introducing me to Mew, by the way. They're now probably one of my favorite bands. This songs in particular I love:

And the Glass Handed Kites took me several unfinished listens to get into (partly because of the abysmal cover art), but I can now say I like it about as much as No More Stories. Frengers is still my favorite album of theirs, and probably one of my favorite pop albums of the last 15 years, too. Really my only complaint is their visual aesthetic in most of their videos doesn't do justice to the music, but I guess that should be easy enough to ignore.

Edit: also need to check out those other bands you mentioned.

I'm glad I was able to connect you to Mew, then. Symmetry is a great song, but Snow Brigade is probably my favorite song on the album other than Am I Wry?. I like And The Glass Handed Kites, but it isn't on the level of Frengers, I agree. I never really watch music videos ever, so I am not particularly worried about it. And honestly, Mew is better than pretty much everyone of the bands I mentioned, even within their respective genres.

Bamyasi

It would honestly be hard for me to pick a favorite track off Frengers. Symmetry just stands out because it's a really well placed break from the more guitar-driven songs, much like the closer. I like their first two albums too (particularly Wheels Over Me, Snowflake, Mica and King Christian, the latter three I think being underrepresented on their best-of compilation).

What did you think of their last album/the direction they're taking on their upcoming one?

Mew - Introducing Palace Players (With Lyrics)

As they shift to "progressive pop" on No More Stories, I wasn't too blown away but the songs are certainly structured in an extremely interesting way that kept me guessing. I love Hawaii and Cartoons & Macramé Wounds as well. Honestly I'm hyped +-. cause as long as Mew stays Mew, I'm sure I'll love it.

Bamyasi

Yeah their song structures are one of my favorite aspects of their music, and a major part of what drew me in initially. Most pop songs are super predictable and end up exactly where they started off with very few detours and that bores me. Looking back I think Glass Handed Kites didn't click with me at first because J Mascis seemed like an awfully safe guest artist compared to some random 14 year old girl like they had on Symmetry. I like their new stuff a lot but I kind of wish they would revisit and perfect the more frivolously poppy and silly side they explored on their first two albums, even though it seems unlikely at this point in their career.

Mew - Mica

Yeah they probably would rather not go back to their happy, poppy days. I would assume +- would be in the vein of No More Stories but I have no clue exactly what they'll do on it. And while yes, getting Becky Jarret (whoever that even is) for Symmetry may have been a bit daring, I have some love for J Masics. Plus the kind of music he is known to make contrasts with, at least what I consider to be, Mew's general sound.

Also one of my AOTY contenders coming through
Pyramids - The Earth Melts Into Red Gashes Like The Mouths Of Whales

What year is that from rtil?

Róisín Murphy - Gone Fishing
^Potential AOTY contender if the rest of the tracks are this good^

Have you listened to Overpowered?

Father John Misty - Chateau Lobby #4 (in C for Two Virgins) [OFFICIAL VIDEO]
Anyway, This record is alright. one of the better of the year so far.

Bamyasi

Overpowered and Ruby Blue are both great albums. The latter had the bonus of being produced by Matt Herbert. His albums with Dani Siciliano are also worth checking out if you enjoy Roisin Murphy/Moloko type stuff in general.

Matthew Herbert - Sonow
Also I'll give that album a try maybe. It doesn't really sound like something I would typically be into but I'm trying to open up to more types of music.

I quite liked overpowered, so I hope the new album is good also. I have no reason to expect it NOT to be. and Father John Misty is cool, kind of a juxtaposition to my current binge of Swans and various death metal bands.

SWANS "OXYGEN" (TO BE KIND)

I regret not listening to this record when it came out last year. I sorely missed out on the newness of it.

Well that's a shame I guess.
