Not sure how many of you have seen this yet, but I just stumbled upon it on a different forum and have to say I am very excited.

The Oculus Rift is basically a headset with a screen mounted to it that apparently makes you feel like you are in the game and immerse you more into it than it has ever been possible before.

Check it out here: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1523379957/oculus-rift-step-into-the-game

And don't panic, they don't use kickstarter to actually fund it (although I'm sure it's a quite nice boost for them). They could have done without kickstarter but they claim that they are using it to distribute the SDK to as many people as possible as quickly as possible and I'd say that's a pretty solid strategy.

i thought everyone already knew about this back when the kickstarter exploded. honestly i can't get excited about it , just listening to a bunch of people talk about how great it is and not actually being able to see the thing in action or some sort of demonstration. of course it's impossible to truly demo it if you can't put the actual device on your head. i think it will be a few years before we see anything really tangible come out of this.

I've always wanted to experience VR, a little kiddie's dream, so of course seeing your post got me a little giddy. Onwards, Oculus!

sevv: btw dude you dropped your wacky-colored paste-on nose here i'll give it back to you

Evelynn

I hope the finished product is amazing, glad to see someone's working on VR though.

valiums

This sounds amazing. I can't wait to wish I could afford it.

Greenkitten

they've had shitter versions of these for years. They have always been expensive and shitty though. I doubt this will be much better

I don't really have a set opinion on VR, other than being a similar way to enhance gameplay and experiences in a audience that came with similar graphical limitations being dropped off of games over the years.

To be honest, I winced clicking this thread, because I expected it to be about a graphic eye injury, and was pleasantly surprised.
this all reminds me of that dream, where you tried to run and you tried to scream, but your heavy feet, just dragged to the beat, of the world's slowest blues

oh yeah i am going to the gamescom on sunday so i may be able to test one, if the queue isn't too long. I'll report back with information then.
