plot-wise, it's an obvious mash-up of well-known clichées

character/dialogue-wise, there are several moments when you just flinch at how bad the writing can get.
- there's two token minorities who don't do anything except for sacrificing themselves and they're constantly talking about some dumb bet, trying their best to be some sort of comic relief, or to add some weight to the ending.
- there's two professional space scientists being really scared of everything BUT the biologist does what every movie biologist does - he tries to get close to an obviously dangerous being while going "aww, so pretty!".
- the guy who says that he would do. anything. it takes! to find out who created him goes instantly suicidal and jumps headfirst into Bitch Girl's flamethrower despite his lover's cries
- which reminds me of Bitch Girl and Black Man's very stupid excuse to get out of the most important room in the ship while two of their crew are stuck in a cave full of dead bodies, living creatures and faulty sonars
- Black Man puts a cap on when he's going to sacrifice himself. i thought he was going to scream "for america!" right then.
- robot with secret agenda and hot archeologist surgeon discuss faith because it's very important to congratulate the main character on keeping her religion throughout the film
- also if she wasn't a christian the film would "raise very important questions regarding" whether the pope allows abortion in the case of accidental alien fertilization
- the way blonde girl was talking to her dad, and the way she said "FATHER!" at the end like nobody would get it otherwise, was very, very wince-worthy
- that final sequence with the giant ring of death wasn't bad writing i guess, just bad directing. hot scientist literally ROLLS OUT THE WAY while blondie gets crushed. so stupid.


also, as beautiful as the scenery is, just alluding to countless mythos doesn't bulk up the story or give it any real depth. of course the background is going to be loaded with references, of course the backstory can be very interesting and complex, those kinds of things are what you get after working on a flick for years and years. but ridley scott saying jesus was a space missionary in an interview somewhere doesn't add anything to the actual fucking movie. the only thing we get from all this bullshit is that if prometheus was about the events that led up to prometheus, it would've been a much better film. we can't say that the backstory to anything is what "it was really all about", otherwise, it would be much more focused on.
