to be fair, all of these sites have always been required to abide by takedown notices. files get deleted from filesharing sites all the time - this is no surprise.

also, i have no issue accessing any of those sites. i also have a mediafire account and all of my stuff is still there (most of it is my own stuff though)

So the sites that can't be accessed right now are just laying low until this piracy sensationalism dies down, right? I only used Megaupload to download music and some anime. That was the only file sharing site I used so I don't know about any others.

Regardning animes, file hosters have actually are the most widely used method of spreading files online and megaupload used to be one of the majorly used hosters, if not the most frequently used hoster.

that's because it's the "easiest" way of getting stuff. more people are just gonna learn how to torrent

They still made their fortune on pirated content, even if they started obeying the rules later. Yes they didn't pirate shit personally, but it's a subtle manipulation that they knew people would and when they did they waited until they were loaded before taking action.
Plus there is also a charge for laundering money there also. This could probably have been settled through other means, but the owners may have forced their hand.

and cbs made millions by providing tools that let you download illegally, explaining to you how to download illegally, suggesting you things you can download illegally and all that. Not just CBS, also Warner and others but blabla go watch that video from last page. I've been checking out a lot of that stuff and what he says (for the most part) seems to be true.
