the alternative was to fuck over a ton of people who rely on military-related government funding, in effect war vets and stuff

his hands are tied because congress is full of corrupt fucks

you are right about that, and that is what boehner had planned the whole time. he likes to slip in things like that with unrelated finance and funding bills that have to be signed. the fact he can do that is terrible - however, obama still made a huge mistake in my opinion. he should have vetoed it the moment it got to his desk and demanded that the republicans take out the NDAA sections and pass it again.

but because the bill already already passed with a super majority, would the veto do anything more than delay it's passing? I suppose vocally attacking the bill would have been his best option, since at this point not vetoing it seems like misguided damage control--he's been spared accusations of delaying the bill ("Obama denies funding for families of our troops!") but is now saddled with the title of President Who Allowed His Citizens To Be Indefinitely Detained
