RECOMMENDATIONS THREAD

i thought it'd be cool to make a thread game where people can recommend each other some entertainment they think they'd like

how it works
1. dude A posts things they're interested in lately or have always liked, be it games, music, film, cartoons, animu, comics, manga, whatever
2. dude B responds to dude A with things they like that they think dude A would also like or just post more good stuff not @ anyone in particular
3. the chain can continue and go in any order (ie you can respond to someone 3 pages before you if you have recommendations for them)

@ cave story: try spelunky out if you haven\\\'t already, it has similar graphics but you\\\'re playing on randomized levels instead
@ earthbound: mother 3, it gets rid of pretty much every flaw EB had and has a much more enjoyable battle system/story; one of the best games i\\\'ve ever played anyway

@ friendly fires: late of the pier, they\\\'re not AMAZING but they do have some good songs here and there. it\\\'s another youthful knockabout indie dance pop band like FF anyway.

@ madoka magica: you could try revolutionary girl utena. i personally didnt like it but it\\\'s the same sort of thing as magica, a deconstruction of the whole japanese magic girl crap. lots of symbolism and cool visual shit - but there\\\'s also a LOT of reused footage sometimes for the sake of art and sometimes for the sake of budget, if you\\\'re irritated with the show by 5 eps in its probably not worth bothering with

animation: planetes, mushishi, wakfu
games (series): advance wars, zelda, metal gear solid

* add the original dragon ball to animation, if anyone has something similar (funny + lots of action) but shorter that would be great

@Silent hill; the only two scary games i've ever played were silent hill and Fatal Frame, so I suggest that I guess.
@Adventure Time; Regular Show? Flapjack? Gumball? if you watch cartoon network you probably know all those already.

lately i have been watching a lot of seijun suzuki, quirky films like hausu, zardoz, a boy and his dog, etc. and really terrible movies (I have already seen a lot of troma and theasylum films so anything else would be nice)

if you like noroi, you will probably also like haze and soseiji by shinya tsukamoto and kairo by kiyoshi kurosawa

im not sure if you only familiar with jazmattaz guru or gangstarr guru but eitherways i reccomend you just check out the entire Moment Of Truth album, and for a group that is similiar to a tribe called quest then you need to check out some of that Little Brother

all the sequels of those from what i've seen are pretty good. it has been literally forever since i've touched ps2 and i can't think of any exactly in that genre, but you might like psychonauts. i haven't played through it yet (it's next on my list) but pretty much everyone who has has also recommended it to me and says it's amazing.

yea man i played the entire trilogy of sly, jak and ratchet, they were all great

never heard of psychonauts tho, but ill defiantly check it out

more things i'm hitting right now:
music: the antlers (sad indie rock), ima robot (rock?), anamanaguchi (chiptune), school food punishment (dreaded j-rock genre), the protomen (chiptune/symphonic rock/one of my favorite bands ever, still listen to them regularly)
games: yume nikki, final fantasy VI, killing floor, team fortress 2, left 4 dead 1+2, half-life 2, portal 1+2 (obligatory valve products), starcraft II, spiral knights, earthbound, blazblue: calamity trigger
comics/manga: homestuck (if you need to kill a LOT of time, although i'm not liking the recent updates as much, and the fanbase is shhhhhiiittttt), bakuman, and i'm starting to get into tezuka more lately so i'll keep you posted on how good that is (even though i already know it's going to be good)

i sort of need good anime to watch since i'm a bit fresh out so i'm gonna throw down some more that i've always liked in the last few years:
anime: death note, every miyazaki film ever, flcl, tengen toppa gurren lagann, dead leaves, panty & stocking, madoka magica, cromartie high school, devilman
