dom manipulation/jquery/html5 is the reason why flash is heading out the door for web design. plus flash is a 3rd party plugin, you can't guarantee every web browser has it

Heres the design I came up with for home page

Grapes act as buttons and will display text when you hover over them of what part of the site youd visit when you click them.
Tell me what you all think! This was what me and my "client" agreed upon

i've never liked that embossed look. it looks like digital plastic wrap that belongs on a site from 10 years ago. i think you could go for something more real and appealing.

Its simple. Its a business site. Clickable grapes don't seem professional too pro. What i would say is download some html templates and get some ideas.. There are some really nice ones out there that can get you ideas..

Okay so I've run into a problem. Probably somethin easy for most pro web designers.

I'm trying to make the site layout liquid so it won't fuck up on different resolution screens. Is there an easy way to do this? I know I have to place percentage values for any tables etc but is there anything else I should know?

Also for anyone who knows anything about video, were going to be posting videos of like the owner reviewing wine and everything. Whats a good camera for this that wont make us look cheap/ghetto?

tables should only be used for tabular data. even then, i try to avoid them. the best way to create a fluid layout is with div tags. but you need to be strong in css to pull this off. i'd look up centered div layouts on google for starters.

your safest bet is to go with a fixed width site. but i like to span the full width of the window, with a min-width rule so it can't get squeezed too much.

okay the fixed width I guess will be fine. How do I make something like that so on a diff resolution screen there will be minimum scrollin? and also not have it look fucked

you just need to be smart about the width you choose. i think these days it is safe to go with something around 900-1000px. i would assume 99+% of people browsing the internet have a wide resolution of 1200 or larger.

forget videocameras, just get / rent a dslr. but anything is good imho as long as you know how to use it, and color correct it properly

also having good lighting will make the video quality a lot better. most so called 'HD' cameras will look decent providing there's good light. so either record outside at daylight, or make sure the room you're filming is well lit. PROTIPZ

Alright well this is my last major hang up for now. My issue is I can't center the elements on the page. This is probably because I have all of the elements absolute positioned. The only reason I have done this is because I have overlapping images on my webpage which required me to use the z-index command. If you don't position the z-index absolutely shit gets fucked.

Is there an easy way to center all the things on my page that doesn't require me to redo images or some heavy work where Ill have to start from the ground up?

So Id have to upload this to the server space we purchased? Or is there another way to do this that wont involve me taking down our old site and puttin up this incomplete one? I wouldn't mind doin this since the old ones shit. It just might take awhile

And I did try to put everything in a div. Maybe I'm just not good at it but I couldnt really move it I assumed because everything is absolutely positioned but I dunno!

you just put it in a new subfolder, like /newsite/ or /testsite/, etc... you don't have to overwrite anything.
